Practice. Practice. Kauśika, when a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he does not abide in form. When he does not abide in form, then he is practicing yoga with form. He does not abide in feeling, perception, formations, or consciousness. When he does not abide in consciousness, then he is practicing yoga with consciousness. He does not abide in the eye. Similarly, he does not abide in the ear, nose, tongue, body, or mind. Thus, he is practicing yoga with the Perfection of Wisdom. He does not abide in form. Similarly, he does not abide in sound, smell, taste, touch, or dharma. Thus, he is practicing yoga with the Perfection of Wisdom. He does not abide in eye consciousness. He does not abide in eye contact. He does not abide in the feeling born of eye contact. Similarly, he does not abide in ear, nose, tongue, body, or mind consciousness. He does not abide in mind contact. He does not abide in the feeling born of mind contact. Thus, he is practicing yoga with the Perfection of Wisdom. He does not abide in the earth element. Similarly, he does not abide in the water element, fire element, wind element, space element, or consciousness element. Thus, he is practicing yoga with the Perfection of Wisdom. He does not abide in ignorance. Similarly, he does not abide in formations, consciousness, name and form, the six sense sources, contact, feeling, craving, grasping, becoming, birth, old age and death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, distress, and agitation. Thus, he is practicing yoga with the Perfection of Wisdom. He does not abide in the Perfection of Giving. Similarly, he does not abide in morality, patience, diligence, meditation, or the Perfection of Wisdom. Thus, he is practicing yoga with the Perfection of Wisdom. He does not abide in inner emptiness. Thus, he is practicing yoga with the Perfection of Wisdom.

One should thus practice yoga. Not abiding in the emptiness of the nature of non-things, thus one practices yoga in the perfection of wisdom. Not abiding in the mindfulness, thus one practices yoga in the perfection of wisdom. Likewise, not abiding in the right abandonment, the magical feet, the faculties, the powers, the limbs of enlightenment, and the paths, thus one practices yoga in the perfection of wisdom. Likewise, not abiding in the four immeasurables, the four meditations, the four formless absorptions, the five superknowledges, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, the eight liberations, the nine successive abidings in meditative absorption, and the doors of dharani, thus one practices yoga in the perfection of wisdom. Likewise, not abiding in the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the various right knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, thus one practices yoga in the perfection of wisdom. Why is that? Because, like this, since form is not observed in that which is to be abided in and that in which yoga is to be practiced. Since feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are not observed in that which is to be abided in and that in which yoga is to be practiced. Since the elements, the sources, the limbs of dependent arising, the perfections, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, all emptinesses, all samadhis, all dharani doors, the immeasurables, the meditations, the formless absorptions, the eight liberations, the nine successive abidings in meditative absorption, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, the superknowledges, the ten powers, and the four fearlessnesses are not observed in that which is to be abided in and that in which yoga is to be practiced.

The four kinds of individual correct knowledge and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha are not fixated upon, because of not focusing on them. This is called the union that does not abide in form and so forth. Kausika! Furthermore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not unite with form; when he does not unite with form, then he is in yoga with form. He does not unite with feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness; when he does not unite with consciousness, then he is in yoga with consciousness. Similarly, he does not unite with the elements, the sources, dependent origination, the perfections, the factors of enlightenment, emptiness, the noble truths, the immeasurables, meditative absorption, the formless attainments, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, the eight liberations, the nine successive abidings in meditative absorption, clairvoyance, samadhi, the doors of dharani, the ten powers, fearlessness, the four kinds of individual correct knowledge, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha; when he does not unite with the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, then he is in yoga with the unshared qualities of a Buddha. He does not unite up to all-knowingness; when he does not unite with all-knowingness, then he is in yoga with all-knowingness. Why is that? It is because that Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not focus on the past extreme of form, does not focus on the future extreme of form, and does not focus on the middle of form. He does not focus on the past extreme of feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness; he does not focus on the future extreme of consciousness, and he does not focus on the middle of consciousness. Similarly, he does not focus on the elements, the sources, the limbs of dependent origination, and the perfections.
