Those who possess the four concentrations and the four formless absorptions, as well as the five supernormal cognitions, are those who have conceptual consciousness because they have an object of focus. Why is that? It is because any son or daughter of good family who constantly serves, honors, respects, and makes offerings with robes, alms, bedding, medicine, and many provisions to all sentient beings who have entered the stream, up to those who have become arhats, and all sentient beings who have become solitary buddhas, and who attend to them with all means of comfort, are those who have conceptual consciousness. For example, those who serve, honor, respect, and make offerings to bodhisattvas are those who have an object of focus. This is called the great dedication that brings forth great merit. Then, the Four Great Kings and twenty thousand sons of the gods of the retinue of the Four Great Kings, with their palms joined, prostrated to the Blessed One and said this: 'O Blessed One, that which is so skillful in means is the way of non-objectification, the way of non-attachment, and the way of non-sign, dedicating those roots of virtue to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, and in no way becoming two, and also not becoming non-two, such a dedication is endowed with the great dedication of the bodhisattvas, the great beings.' Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, together with the sons of the gods of the Thirty-Three, accompanied by divine flowers, incense, garlands, ointments, powders, garments, umbrellas, victory banners, many streamers, and playing divine musical instruments, made offerings to the Blessed One and spoke these words: 'Blessed One, that which is so skillful in means, with this way of non-objectification, the way of non-attachment, and the way of non-sign, dedicating those roots of virtue to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, and in no way becoming two, and also not becoming non-two.'

Thus dedicating is the great dedication of the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas. Then, the sons of the gods Free from Strife, Great Joy, Wondrous Joy, and the sons of the gods who control the creations of others, accompanied by many thousands, approached the Blessed One and spoke these words to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, by whatever skillful means, with the aspect of no object of focus, the aspect of no sign, and the aspect of no action, those roots of virtue are dedicated to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, and in no way will they become two, nor will they become other than two. Such dedication is the great dedication of the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas." Then, countless hundreds of thousands of millions of Brahma host gods arrived where the Blessed One was, and bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One, saying: "Blessed One, it is wonderful that those sons or daughters of good family who are embraced by the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas through the Perfection of Wisdom and skillful means can overcome the roots of virtue of those who previously engaged in practices with objects of focus!" They uttered sounds and praised in response. Similarly, Brahma's attendants, Great Brahma, Lesser Light, Immeasurable Light, Clear Light, Lesser Virtue, Immeasurable Virtue, Increasing Virtue, Cloudless, Increasing Merit, Great Fruit, Purity, and Akanistha, also countless hundreds of thousands of millions of gods, arrived where the Blessed One was, and bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One, saying: "Blessed One, it is wonderful that those sons or daughters of good family who are embraced by the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas through the Perfection of Wisdom and skillful means can overcome the roots of virtue of those who previously engaged in practices with objects of focus!" They uttered sounds and praised in response. Then, the Blessed One addressed the sons of the gods of the retinue of the Four Great Kings and the sons of the gods of the retinue of the Pure Abodes, saying: "Sons of the gods, if a thousand of the three thousand great thousands

May all sentient beings in the vast world enter into the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. May all of them dedicate all the roots of virtue of the past, future, and present Tathagatas, Arhats, Samyaksambuddhas, the Sangha of Shravakas, and Pratyekabuddhas, from the generation of the first thought of enlightenment until the complete and perfect enlightenment, and until the complete Nirvana in the realm of Nirvana without remainder, and until the duration of the holy Dharma. Also, may they dedicate the roots of virtue of all sentient beings other than them, which arise from the perfection of generosity, and similarly, the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom. The aggregate of ethics, the aggregate of concentration, the aggregate of wisdom, the aggregate of liberation, the aggregate of the wisdom of seeing liberation, and any other immeasurable Buddha-dharmas, all of these, having gathered them into one, may they be completely dedicated to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment in the manner of focusing on them.
