Taking faith to heart. Taking faith to heart. Then again, the lord of the gods, Indra, said to the Blessed One, "Blessed One, If any son of good family or daughter of good family writes this Perfection of Wisdom, keeps it in a book, and holds it, and offers flowers, incense, perfume, garlands, unguents, powders, clothes, umbrellas, banners, flags, and a garland of lamps all around, and many kinds of offerings, with reverence, respect, esteem, and worship; or if one offers the relics of the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, who has passed into complete Nirvana, in a stupa, and after building the stupa, offers flowers, incense, perfume, garlands, unguents, powders, clothes, umbrellas, banners, and many flags with reverence, respect, esteem, and worship, which of these two will have a greater accumulation of merit?" After this request, the Blessed One said to Indra, the lord of the gods, "Kauśika, therefore I will ask you. As you can endure, so declare here. Kauśika, what do you think? The Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, the all-knowing nature of all aspects, and the self-nature of the Tathagata, which has been manifested, by practicing which path does the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, manifest the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and achieve such a self-nature?" After this declaration, Indra, the lord of the gods, said to the Blessed One, "Blessed One, by practicing this Perfection of Wisdom, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, manifests the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and achieves this self-nature." The Blessed One said, "Kauśika, So it is, so it is. That is how it is, that is how it is. By this Perfection of Wisdom,

Having spoken, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, having manifestly awakened to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, this entity of mine is manifestly accomplished. Therefore, Kausika, having obtained this entity of mine, one is not counted as a Tathagata, a Tathagata. It is by obtaining the very omniscience that one is counted as a Tathagata, a Tathagata. Kausika, that which is the very omniscience arises from the Perfection of Wisdom. Thus, obtaining this entity of mine of the Tathagata is indeed arising from the Perfection of Wisdom, having become the support of the wisdom of omniscience. Thus, relying on this support, the attainment of the wisdom of omniscience will occur. The Buddha will arise. The Dharma will arise. The Sangha will arise. Thus, obtaining this entity of mine, also being the cause and basis of this wisdom of the very omniscience, having become the stupa of all sentient beings, and should be prostrated to, should be served, should be made a guru, should be respected, should be remembered, and should be honored. Even when I have completely passed into nirvana, these relics should be offered to in that way. Kausika, therefore, whatever son of good family or daughter of good family, having written this Perfection of Wisdom, having placed it in a book, will hold it, will read it, and with flowers, incense, perfume, garlands, unguents, powders, clothes, umbrellas, banners, and various kinds of flags, will serve it, make it a guru, respect it, offer to it, remember it, and honor it, then this itself will increase much more merit than that. Why is that? Because those sons of good family or daughters of good family will have made offerings to the wisdom of omniscience. Kausika, whatever son of good family or daughter of good family, having placed the relics of the Tathagata who has completely passed into nirvana in a stupa of the nature of the seven precious jewels, or with the seven precious jewels
