The Path of the Hearers. The Path of the Hearers. Kausika, what is the Prajnaparamita of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva? Here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, having generated a mind endowed with all-knowingness, contemplates form as impermanent in a non-objective manner. Through contact, and due to contact, feeling arises, and due to feeling, craving arises, and due to craving, grasping arises, and due to grasping, existence arises, and due to existence, birth arises, and due to birth, old age and death, and sorrow, lamentation, suffering, distress, and agitation will occur. Thus, the great mass of suffering arises, and one should contemplate it as impermanent. One should contemplate it as suffering, selfless, peaceful, disease, tumor, stinging, sinful, the other shore, subject to destruction, wavering, utterly terrifying, terrifying, contagious disease, and oppressive. With the mind of enlightenment endowed with all aspects of knowledge arising, ignorance ceases in a non-objective manner. The cessation of action should be contemplated as selfless. One should contemplate it as peaceful, solitary, empty, signless, wishless, and without manifestation. When action ceases, consciousness ceases. When consciousness ceases, name and form cease. When name and form cease, the six sense sources cease. When the six sense sources cease, contact ceases. When contact ceases, feeling ceases. When feeling ceases, craving ceases. When craving ceases, grasping ceases. When grasping ceases, existence ceases. When existence ceases, birth ceases. When birth ceases, old age and death, and sorrow, lamentation, suffering, distress, and agitation will cease. Thus, the complete cessation of these great masses of suffering should also be contemplated as selfless, peaceful, solitary, empty, signless, wishless, and without manifestation. Kauśika! . The seven limbs of enlightenment, the eight limbs of the noble path, the four meditations, the four immeasurables, the four formless absorptions, the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha are meditated upon. Kausika, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva generates the mind endowed with all-knowingness, he practices the perfection of giving in a non-apprehending manner. He practices the perfection of morality, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom. Kausika, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the perfection of wisdom, he examines separately how the dharmas of dharmas are conjoined, how dharmas are harmonized by dharmas, how they are perfected, and how they are increased. Because of selflessness, all dharmas are just this much, devoid of self or what belongs to self. Why is that? It is because the mind of the root of virtue of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is not associated with the mind of enlightenment. The mind of dedication is not associated with the mind of enlightenment and the mind of the root of virtue. The mind of enlightenment is not associated with the mind of dedication. Why is that? Kausika, the mind of enlightenment does not exist in the mind of dedication, nor is it found there. The mind of dedication does not exist in the mind of enlightenment, nor is it found there. Kausika, thus, having examined all dharmas separately, this non-attachment to any dharma and non-apprehension is the perfection of wisdom of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. Having spoken thus, Indra, the lord of the gods, said this to the venerable Subhuti: Venerable Subhuti, how is it that the mind of dedication is not associated with the mind of enlightenment? How is it that the mind of enlightenment is
