Thus he spoke. The venerable Subhuti, why is it that I am called 'I, I,' but I am not manifestly established? O Blessed One, similarly, the Bodhisattva is called 'Bodhisattva, Bodhisattva,' but the Bodhisattva is not manifestly established. Thus, since all dharmas are of the nature of non-reality, how can form be manifestly established? How can feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness be manifestly established? That which is not manifestly established is not form. That which is not manifestly established is not feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, thus he spoke. The venerable Subhuti, why is it that one instructs and accordingly teaches the Perfection of Wisdom, which is not manifestly established, to that which is not manifestly established? Thus he spoke. The venerable Subhuti, why is it that apart from that which is not manifestly established, there is no object of reference called Bodhisattva Mahasattva? Thus he spoke. The venerable Subhuti, why is it that if it is taught in this way, the mind of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not shrink, does not shrink completely, does not regret, the mind is not frightened, does not tremble, does not fear, that Bodhisattva Mahasattva is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, thus he spoke. Having spoken thus, the venerable Subhuti said to the venerable Shariputra: Venerable Shariputra, because there are no sentient beings, the Bodhisattva does not focus on the prior limit. Because of the emptiness of sentient beings, the tranquility of sentient beings, and the absence of self-nature of sentient beings, the Bodhisattva does not focus on the prior limit. Venerable Shariputra, because there are no sentient beings, the Bodhisattva does not focus on the posterior limit. Because of the emptiness of sentient beings, the tranquility of sentient beings, and the absence of self-nature of sentient beings, the Bodhisattva does not focus on the posterior limit. Venerable Shariputra, because there are no sentient beings, the Bodhisattva does not focus on the middle limit. Because of the emptiness of sentient beings, the tranquility of sentient beings, and the absence of self-nature of sentient beings, the Bodhisattva

A Bodhisattva does not perceive the middle. Shariputra, why is that? Because they do not perceive the past limit in the absence of sentient beings, the emptiness of sentient beings, the solitude of sentient beings, and the absence of inherent existence of sentient beings. They do not perceive the future limit. They do not perceive the middle. The absence of sentient beings is different, the emptiness of sentient beings is different, the solitude of sentient beings is different, the absence of inherent existence of sentient beings is different, and a Bodhisattva is also different. There is no such thing as the past limit being different, the future limit being different, and the middle being different. Shariputra, in that case, what is the absence of sentient beings, what is the emptiness of sentient beings, what is the solitude of sentient beings, what is the absence of inherent existence of sentient beings, what is a Bodhisattva, what is the past limit, what is the future limit, and what is the middle? All of these are non-dual, and cannot be made dual. Shariputra, because form is absent, a Bodhisattva does not perceive the past limit. Because feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are absent, a Bodhisattva does not perceive the past limit. Because form is emptiness, a Bodhisattva does not perceive the past limit. Because feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are emptiness, a Bodhisattva does not perceive the past limit. Because form is solitary, a Bodhisattva does not perceive the past limit. Because feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are solitary, a Bodhisattva does not perceive the past limit. Because form is without inherent existence, a Bodhisattva does not perceive the past limit. Because there is no knowing, the Bodhisattva does not focus on the later limit. Because form is empty, the Bodhisattva does not focus on the later limit.
