Introduction. Introduction. In Sanskrit: Pañcaviṁśatisāhasrikāprajñāpāramitā. (Twenty-five Thousand Verse Prajñāpāramitā). Volume 1. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Those who seek peace, the Hearers, are led to nirvana by omniscience; those who benefit beings accomplish worldly affairs with the knowledge of the path. With whom being perfectly endowed, the Able Ones taught this manifold variety possessing all aspects? I pay homage to the mother of the Buddhas, together with the assembly of Hearers and Bodhisattvas. Those sons of the Conquerors who have set their minds on enlightenment in order to liberate all beings, and those who, having individually realized enlightenment, again practice the incomparable path, Disciples and those who travel the path of disciples, beings who subdue afflictions, may all of them come here with joyful minds to listen to the sacred Dharma! Because this time is defiled by many impurities, it is not like the past, and beings are like this. Views are extremely bad, attachment, hatred, and delusion are extremely intense, and unstable. Life is also not long, obscured by darkness, and lacking pure light, This sutra is not an object of doubt, alas! It is difficult to find, therefore I will distinguish it with wisdom. Thus have I heard. At one time, the Bhagavan was dwelling on Vulture Peak Mountain in Rajagriha. Together with a great Sangha of monks consisting of about five thousand monks, all of whom were Arhats, exhausters of outflows, without afflictions, having attained mastery, with minds that were utterly liberated, with wisdom that was utterly liberated, knowers, great elephants, having done what was to be done, having accomplished what was to be accomplished, having cast off the burden, having fully attained their own benefit, having completely exhausted the bonds of existence, with minds that were utterly liberated through perfect knowledge, having attained the supreme shore beyond all mastery of mind. Except for one individual, namely the venerable Ānanda, who was a Stream-enterer in training. Together with five hundred nuns such as the nun Grakdzin and Mahaprajapati, and female lay followers, and extremely many female lay followers, all of whom were seers of the Dharma. And immeasurable, countless Bodhisattva Mahasattvas.
