Explanation of the Limbs of the Wisdom of the Path Explanation of the Limbs of the Wisdom of the Path Having made the arising of certainty of equality powerful, you, Rabjor, say that the vehicle is equal to the sky, and so on. By taking the sky as an example, it is prevented from knowing that the Great Vehicle has a direction, so it is prevented from being long and short, blue and yellow, and so on, and the form of shape and color is prevented, and the three times are prevented, so it is completely defiled and completely purified, birth and cessation, abiding and ultimate, and there is no change from abiding to other. There, arising from nothing is birth. Returning from existence is prevention. Constant similarity is abiding. Constant transformation is ultimate. Near destruction and constant transformation into another is transformation from abiding to another. Virtue and non-virtue, and non-indeterminate, etc., seeing and hearing, understanding and knowing, etc., what should be known and what should be known, what should be fully known and what should be manifested, what should be abandoned and what should be meditated on. There, what should be known is knowing everything, because the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas see, and after looking with wisdom, the Bodhisattva should cross over, it is said. Knowing everything is the wisdom of the path, because it is what should be known up to the state of Buddhahood. What should be known is knowing all aspects, because it makes everything its object. By preventing the ripening and the Dharma related to it, and belonging to the desire realm, etc., the sky and the Great Vehicle are equal, so from the first generation of mind, it is taken close, and so on until the tenth ground, and the ground of white and clear manifestation, etc., from the ground of understanding what has been done, to the fruits of entering the stream, etc., and the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas and Buddhas are prevented, so the Great Vehicle is form and what can be shown, and what is obstructive and what has similarities are all prevented from being reversed, and so on, from the opposite of happiness and permanence and peace

I, by preventing non-emptiness, characteristics, the existence of aspirations, and the reversal of reversal, solitude, and appearance, as well as attainment, near attainment, speakable, and highly speakable, the Great Vehicle is shown to be equal to the nature of space. Having resolved to emerge for the benefit of sentient beings, Subhuti, you say this: Just as space guides immeasurable and countless sentient beings, so too is the Great Vehicle. Because sentient beings, space, and the Great Vehicle do not exist, the Great Vehicle is the guide of immeasurable and countless sentient beings. Why is that? Because sentient beings, space, and the Great Vehicle are unattainable. Again, because sentient beings, space, and the Great Vehicle are immeasurable, as previously shown, the Great Vehicle is the guide of sentient beings. Why is that? Because sentient beings and so on are unattainable. Again, because sentient beings, space, and the Great Vehicle are countless, it itself is the guide of countless sentient beings. Why is that? Because they are all unattainable. Again, because the realm of sentient beings, the realm of Dharma, space, and the Great Vehicle are immeasurable and countless, therefore, as previously stated, it is the guide of sentient beings. Why is that? Because they are all unattainable. Again, because sentient beings, the Tathagata, space, the Great Vehicle, the unconditioned, the unmeasurable, the uncountable, and the uninferable are non-existent, all dharmas are non-existent, therefore, as previously shown, it is the guide of sentient beings. Why is that? Because they are unattainable. Furthermore, because self, sentient beings, life, etc., as well as the true limit, the countless, etc., all dharmas are non-existent, therefore it itself is the guide of sentient beings. Why is that? Because it is thus unattainable. Again, because self, etc., the inconceivable realm of Dharma, aggregates such as form, etc., and the realms

Ah! Because of the Great Vehicle, the immeasurable, the innumerable, and the unfathomable, it itself awakens the understanding of sentient beings. Why is that? Because they are all without an object of focus. Furthermore, because of self and so on, eye and so on, space, the Great Vehicle, the immeasurable, the innumerable, and the unfathomable, it itself awakens the understanding of sentient beings. Why is that? Because they are all without an object of focus. Furthermore, because of self and so on, the perfections such as generosity, space, the Great Vehicle, the immeasurable, the innumerable, the unfathomable, and the non-existence of all phenomena, it itself awakens the understanding of sentient beings. Why is that? Because they are all without an object of focus. Furthermore, because of self and so on, the emptiness of sentient beings, likewise the aspects of enlightenment and so on, from the unmixed, lineage, stream-enterer and so on, whatever is the Hearer and Solitary Buddha Vehicle, and the Thus-Gone One's omniscience, space, the Great Vehicle, and the non-existence of all phenomena, it itself awakens the understanding of sentient beings. Why is that? Because they are all without an object of focus. Nirvana, space, metaphors, the Great Vehicle as previously shown, awaken the understanding of sentient beings. As it says in the sutra: Subhuti, it is also like this: the realm of Nirvana, the immeasurable, the innumerable, the unfathomable, awaken the understanding of sentient beings. If that is so, then in this Great Vehicle and so on, there is no occasion for the fault of repeating many examples from other transmissions. Through the stages of difference in realizing this and that, the benefit to sentient beings increases from higher to higher, and it is taught in this way for the purpose of understanding gradual entry. As it says in other sutras: Peaceful Intelligence, these names should be understood in this way: just as one approaches unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment, so too one benefits immeasurable sentient beings.
