The root, one's own mind, is the dual cause of Dharma. By what means can one reverse the cycle of existence and its causes and effects? The mind's conceptualization is the cause of Dharma, and stopping it is Nirvana. That is being free from the four sufferings of birth, aging, sickness, and death. So, what is the method to attain Nirvana? The great Shramana Shakyamuni said thus, this is the concluding statement. Now, the precepts are explained: Do no evil, this is abiding in higher ethical discipline. All evils are like inauspicious omens. From the moment evil is done, suffering will arise in this life and the next. Therefore, it is said, do no evil. Practice all virtues, this means purifying the three doors of body, speech, and mind, practicing the ten virtues, and perfectly practicing through the three wisdoms. From this, higher wisdom will increase. Tame your own mind, the mind has been wandering freely in afflictions since beginningless time, like a wild horse. Taming them is as difficult as taming a wild horse. Therefore, the method to tame the mind, so that it does not wander to external objects, is: by higher concentration, the mind is kept in equanimity, thereby completely taming it. Thus, abiding in the three higher trainings, this is what the Buddhas of the three times have taught in order to lead beings to attain Buddhahood. Thus, and so on, many verses appearing in the sutras spoken from the mouth of the teacher, one should also widely practice Dharma giving. As mentioned above, dispel doubts with Dharma giving, and thereby cut off the obscuration of knowledge. Pacify the afflictions of desire with material giving, and cut off the obscuration of afflictions with giving. Thus, through Dharma giving and material giving, purify the obscuration of afflictions and the obscuration of knowledge, and as their antidote, perfectly accumulate the two great accumulations of merit and wisdom, thereby attaining the unsurpassed Buddhahood, one should know thus. The above is the summary of the sixth distinction. Torma is the most excellent of all activities, activities
