Commentary on Torma. Commentary on Torma. In Sanskrit: Baliṃta-vṛtti. In Tibetan: Commentary on Torma. Homage to the noble Manjushri! Savior of beings, loving and supreme compassionate one, your flawless teachings. Equal in intent to the Buddha himself, the supreme seat and its vicinity, I pay homage to you! Striving greatly for the benefit of the sixth, seeing your face, supplicating with affection, bestowing teachings. For this reason, Jaya Sena clarified, explaining the path clearly, I supplicated him greatly. Out of love for the faithful one and the five lineages, exerting effort, a concise summary that does not contradict scripture and truth. I have composed this, may the learned and wise ones forgive me. As the noble ones have said, it is taught for the sake of beings with superior, middling, and inferior faculties. Here, for those with sharp faculties, understanding comes from merely indicating the name, which is called sharp faculties. Indicating the name refers to the Torma in the treatises of the Great Vehicle, which is the union of skillful means and wisdom. For those with sharp faculties, understanding comes from merely indicating this much. For the benefit of those with middling faculties, it is taught by summarizing the general meaning into six points, and understanding comes from explaining these six points separately. For the benefit of those with inferior faculties, it is taught by explaining each point individually, starting with "Homage to the Three Jewels." However, "Homage to the Three Jewels" summarizes the first of the six points. Using the Udumbara flower as an example of rarity, possessing the supreme qualities of greatness, and establishing the definite number of three: Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, therefore it is called the Three Jewels. The word "la" is connected to the preceding phrase. The word "phyag 'tshal lo" is connected to oneself. The preceding summarizes the first distinction. Now, the second aspect is explained. The word "dad pa" (faith) here possesses three types of faith: delighting in this, desiring to strive through delight, and having confidence through the desire to strive, these three are called faith. The word "can" is connected to these three. The word "gang zhig gis" refers to the one who does not fixate on anything.

"Giving" is what it means. "To do" means to choose from the many good and bad deeds done by beings. It is of great benefit and is excellent, because it is a water offering, so one should strive to do it, which is related to the word "to do." Among them, great benefit means that both this life and the next can manifest increase, as well as the definitive path of goodness, and other benefits will also arise. "Excellent" means that it does not require great effort. "Because this is a water offering" is related to emptiness. "One should strive to do it" is related to the previous words, and it is easy to understand. The above is a summary of the second classification. Now the third part is narrated. Among them, "that" is the word that distinguishes the third part. Pour water into a beautiful vessel made of jewels, put in flour and flowers, etc., as much as possible, and polish five kinds of jewels such as gold and silver, and various foods that are not mentioned, as well as medicines, grains, and various spices, which will be even better, which is related to the "water offering" in the second part. It itself shows the difference between the container and the items, because it is expressed in an ordinary way, so it is easy to understand. The above is a summary of the third classification. Now the fourth part is narrated. In general, "to do the work of Torma" means to show the characteristics of all Tormas, so that they have the elements that will appear below. "There are six observations" means that what is to be observed here is not things and characteristics, but through the samadhi of self-realization, to meditate without attachment to self, other, and things, or to say that observation is determined as six aspects, then what is the thing that is said? This is the meaning of the written words. As an answer to this question, the six aspects are listed: to thoroughly purify the faults of items and utensils, to increase the small amount of items and utensils to a large amount, to transform the increased items into preferences according to each guest's wishes, and after transforming them into preferences in this way, to authorize each guest to use them, and after authorizing them in this way
