The Commentary on the Dhāraṇī Called "Vajra-vidāraṇa," The Precious Garland. By Sāvaripa. The Commentary on the Dhāraṇī Called "Vajra-vidāraṇa," The Precious Garland. By Sāvaripa. In Sanskrit: Vajra-vidāraṇa-nāma-dhāraṇī-ratna-mālā-vṛtti-nāma. In Tibetan: The Commentary on the Dhāraṇī Called "Vajra-vidāraṇa," The Precious Garland. Homage to the Bhagavan Vajrapāṇi! Subduer of the unruly, holder of the indestructible mountain, Whose form destroys afflictions with the light of compassion, Who gathers without exception all aims of self and others, To the clear form of indivisible nature, I bow. Relying on the guru's oral instructions, For the sake of the inferior, I will explain the meaning of the vajra. Thus I have heard: At one time, the Bhagavan resided in the vajra posture, having blessed all bodies with the vajra, and entered into the vajra samādhi. This was at the Bodhimaṇḍa of the Bhagavan Vajrāsana, together with an immeasurable retinue of bodhisattvas. The manner of residing was that the Bhagavan himself dissolved into that vajra, and the Buddhas bestowed their blessings. Then, from that vajra, the Bhagavan manifested the aspect of samādhi in three forms. Thus it was heard as vajra and wrathful one. By whom was it heard? It was heard by me, Vajrapāṇi, at one time. How was it heard? It was heard after inquiring through the power of the Buddhas and the blessings of all the bodhisattvas, and also after asking about the meaning of those two. The meaning of saying that it arises from the vajra essence and speaks of the vajra is that vajra refers to what is to be destroyed and the act of destroying. The wrathful one refers to the one who destroys. Its meaning is wisdom and compassion. What is the meaning of wisdom? It is that which cannot be cut, cannot be broken, is true, firm, unimpeded in all supports, and undefeated in all things. What is the meaning of its method? It is to make all sentient beings afraid, to subdue all sentient beings. What, then, are the qualities of wisdom? It is to cut all vidyā-mantras, to suppress all vidyā-mantras, to destroy all actions.
