The Commentary on the Dhāraṇī Called "The Noble Vajrapāṇi, the Blue-Clad One" by Nāgārjuna The Commentary on the Dhāraṇī Called "The Noble Vajrapāṇi, the Blue-Clad One" By Nāgārjuna In Sanskrit: Ārya-nīlāṃbara-dhara-vajrapāṇi-vidhi-nāma-dhāraṇī-ṭīkā. In Tibetan: The Commentary on the Dhāraṇī Called "The Noble Vajrapāṇi, the Blue-Clad One." Homage to the Three Jewels! Homage to the great yaksha chief, Vajrapāṇi, the Blue-Clad One! He who is undefiled by the faults of affliction, clear as a jewel, majestic as Mount Meru. To show beings the order of emanations, self-arisen, burning the three thousand worlds. From the beginning, unthinkingly, from the nature of reality, with the power of compassion, he appears as great wrath. Having become the secret treasury of all Buddhas, I pay homage to that Vajra Holder. Pacifying the suffering of outer and inner, the profound secret meaning of the king of tantras. From the power of the lineage of lamas, having surely found the rays of self-arisen nectar. This commentary, which is known to all as the dhāraṇī of Vajrapāṇi, whose name is first. This commentary is not for the sake of self-gain, but for the benefit of beings, I will explain it clearly. Therein, first, to show the meaning of the name. Therefore, it is said, the yaksha chief, the great Vajrapāṇi, the Blue-Clad One. He is the miraculous emanation of compassion, the image of a yaksha, the essence of a nāga, the nature of Vajrapāṇi, the possessor of power and strength. Therein, the name yaksha indicates that the yakshas, the blue-clad ones, reside at the end of Mount Meru, at the top of the iron fence that surrounds it, showing that it is consistent with their characteristics. The great chief is superior to those yakshas of that kind by the great wisdom of action, that is, subduing others. The name Vajrapāṇi is the vajra of the wisdom of the five knowledges, that is, destroying the five afflictions. The name Blue-Clad One is the ornament of the body, which creates devotion in beings, or shows the respective signs of being fierce and subduing the retinue. He who is followed by as many Buddhas as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River is the same as the emanation body, so those
