A Brief Explanation of Mandala Measurement Lines. Shraddha Kara Dharma. A Brief Explanation of Mandala Measurement Lines. Shraddha Kara Dharma. In Sanskrit: Samshipta Mandala Sutra Nama Vriti. In Tibetan: A Brief Explanation of Mandala Measurement Lines. Homage to youthful Manjushri. First, paying homage to the Bhagavan is to begin writing the treatise, because in the creation of all treatises, the holy ones always first pay homage to their beloved deity. Therefore, it is said to be pure and so on. Among them, purity means being free from faults such as greed. Its nature refers to the essence of the nature of reality, therefore, self-nature is immaculate, which means being free from the stains of habits and afflictions. It is great bliss, and bliss refers to the nature of emptiness of all things, self-luminous, the meaning of the unchanging essence of reality. The word "great" is a word of offering, because it is the place offered by worldly and transcendental offerings. This is praising and paying homage through the gate of the three bodies, Self-nature is immaculate refers to the Dharmakaya. Great bliss refers to the Sambhogakaya. Pure refers to the Nirmanakaya. Such a Bhagavan, with body, speech, and mind, pays homage and reverence, all the tantras, that is to say, like that collection and so on, the external, common mandala measurement lines, explain and show the manifestation of the Tathagata palace. Now, in order to show the perfect place, it is said that the ground is flat and pleasant, and so on. The part of the ground is the place, very flat, and flat in all directions. Therefore, it is pleasant, because it is pleasant with the surrounding trees and water, etc. In addition, the width is twice the mandala.

That is to say, if making square mandalas etc., the place of the mandala should be borne by eight bundles etc. Furthermore, "well anointed with fragrant water," means to anoint with very fragrant water such as camphor and sandalwood. "Purified by mantra" means that all methods of mandala practice must first recite mantras to purify and subdue. "Extremely beautiful" means having excellent characteristics. So, what should be done in a place with such merits? "Knowing that all directions are equal to the front," etc., one should understand the directions of Ishvara, Yama, the water god, and the wealth god, that is, the four directions, and the directions of fire, nirrti, wind, and Ishvara, that is, the four corners, and one should know that the directions and four corners are equal and the same, and then draw lines. So, with what kind of line with what characteristics should one draw? "Line rope" etc. are mentioned. What should one use to draw the line? With a line. What are its characteristics? It is mentioned that "the mandala is twice the size," that is, in the water, the mandala is twice the amount. Similarly, "extremely fresh and moist earth," means that because the mandala has not been completely used elsewhere, it is extremely fresh. It is moistened with water blessed by the mantras of all activities, so it is moist. The wise person is the one who knows the drawing line ritual, and he should draw the mandala lines truthfully and without confusion. This will show that for square mandalas etc., it should be made twice its size, that is, eight cubits in the water. Similarly, if making an eight-cubit mandala etc., it should be made sixteen cubits, and one should use a fine thread that is equal to one-twentieth of the door, soft and without knots, and well-wrapped to draw the ground line, that is its meaning. Now, in order to show the drawing line ritual starting from the second line of Brahma, "the teacher looks east" etc. are mentioned, in the place mentioned before, the teacher, the lama, should face east, and the disciple, that is, the assistant of the practice, should face the vase, that is, face west, and both should use the same steps.

Having settled in a convenient manner, stretch the thread extremely, hold it with the vajra fist, stretch and extend the thread, and let the disciple's fist hold the mark in the middle of the two points of power and fire. The master holds the mark in the middle of the two directions of truthlessness and wind. Placing the vajra fist on the ground is called "placing the vajra fist on the ground." Thus placed in the place of the mandala, the first Brahma line should be firmly laid down. Having mastered the second Brahma line, recite "This line is by eight mandalas," meaning that the Brahma line previously laid down is by a hundred mandalas, meaning the size of the mandala that one wants to manifest. Alternatively, divide the previous one into four equal parts. After dividing in this way, discard the two ends of the four clearly divided parts, that is, the east and west parts, because they are not needed. Take the size of the two middle parts, that is, the size of the two middle parts that are connected to the center, and make a soft wooden strip equal to that size, and make the boundary of the second Brahma line in the order described below. As for "equal in the center" and so on, use as small a non-circular wood as possible, take half the size of the small mandala, carefully cut and make it, so that it does not change the two middle parts mentioned earlier, and look from west to east. Hold the wood firmly with your left hand, and hold it with your right hand as before, so that your left hand does not move. With the tip of the wood held by the right hand, draw a line on the ground in the direction of Vaisravana with a pen. Similarly, hold it firmly and draw a ground line in the south, that is, in the direction of Yama. After doing this, stand up, and similarly, face west again, place the wood in the center as before, hold it tightly with your left hand, and with the tip of the wood held by your right hand, first draw a ground line from the south and north as before, and then meet in the center and draw two ground lines. What changes will happen by doing this? Therefore, two crow footprints will appear in the south and north.
