The Precious Garland of Suchness. The Precious Garland of Suchness. In Sanskrit: Tattvaratna Avali Nama. In Tibetan: The Precious Garland of Suchness. Homage to youthful Manjushri! The autumn moon, stainless light, I prostrate to the lotus of the two feet of Vajrasattva, therefore, I will speak of the precious suchness. For those individuals who have strayed from the lineage's tenets and whose eyes are covered by dimness, I will explain the true precious suchness. There are three vehicles: the Hearer Vehicle, the Solitary Realizer Vehicle, and the Great Vehicle. There are four abodes: the distinctions of the Vaibhashika, Sautrantika, Yogachara, and Madhyamaka schools. Among these, the abode of the Vaibhashika is the Hearer Vehicle and the Solitary Realizer Vehicle. The Great Vehicle also has two aspects: the Paramita Vehicle and the Secret Mantra Vehicle. Among these, the Paramita Vehicle also has three: one should practice abiding in the Sautrantika, Yogachara, and Madhyamaka schools. The principles of Secret Mantra also have two: the Yogacharin and those who abide in the Madhyamaka. The Yogachara also has two aspects: the distinction between those with aspects and those without aspects. Similarly, the Madhyamaka also has two aspects: those who speak of non-duality as being like illusion, and the distinction of those who speak of all phenomena as not truly abiding. Among these, the Hearers also have three aspects: the distinctions of inferior, intermediate, and superior. Among these, the inferior and intermediate are the later Vaibhashikas. The superior are the Kashmir Vaibhashikas. Among these, the Hearer's inferior's object of investigation is: by taking the acceptance of external objects such as blue and yellow as a precursor, one analyzes whether the person is permanent or impermanent, and whether they are separate from both. Regarding this, the existence of blue and so on, those possessed by the demon of grasping at reality, with the fear of the profound body, is spoken to extremely ignorant beings. And, there is also a person who bears burdens, one does not say they are permanent, nor does one say they are impermanent. A person with desire is in samsara.

Therefore, in order to completely abandon desire, one should cultivate the contemplation of impurity. Cultivating the contemplation of impurity means to truly examine the collection of things like feces, urine, semen, blood, snot, intestines, fat, lungs, heart, kidneys, spleen, and stomach of the body. As it is said in the scriptures: For a while, take this covering of skin and separate it with your own wisdom. From the structure of flesh and bones, separate it with the sword of wisdom. Separate the bones one by one, even down to the soles of the feet. What essence is there in this? You should examine it yourself. This is how it is taught in the scriptures. If someone is prejudiced and thinks that things are permanent, that is the defilement of meditation. Until the end of life, I take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. I prostrate to the Sugata and the two elders. By whatever roots of virtue I have accumulated, may I alone tame my mind. May I alone pacify my mind, this is the view. The middling view and examination are the same as before. This (referring to the middling one) is wanting to slightly benefit others. Through the meditation of exhaling and inhaling, contemplating the person who is separate from the nature of permanence and impermanence, and the mindless nature of the vase of air, is the defilement of meditation. Because it has become rigid. The superior one acknowledges external objects and completely destroys and examines the body in a selfless way. Through fully understanding the Four Noble Truths, contemplating emptiness is meditation. Here, suffering should be understood as the nature of the five aggregates. Accumulation is conceptual thought, which should be abandoned. Cessation is higher vision, which should be realized. The path is emptiness, which should be cultivated. However, if emptiness is clung to as a permanently peaceful aspect, that is the defilement of meditation. Furthermore, the view here is the special feature of benefiting others. Furthermore, here, the inferior Shravaka, because they are of a determined lineage and because they lack compassion, will become the Bodhi of a Shravaka, some think. Others think: All will become Buddhas. There is no one without fortune here. Therefore, I will attain perfect and complete enlightenment.
