Not deviating from the path, not prostrating, and dwelling and wandering at night in places like cemeteries that frighten children, this is the ascetic practice of the great wrathful one's body. Constantly reciting secret mantras and not speaking mundane words, and if demons conjure up desirable or undesirable forms, enticing with joyful words or frightening with unpleasant words, but not replying, this is the ascetic practice of speech. Constantly thinking only of the Bhagavan Yamantaka, completely abandoning other thoughts, not being attached to anything other than one's own deity, constantly being delighted in one's own deity, ugly forms appearing, and hearing unpleasant sounds, but having no fear in the mind, similarly, even when desirable objects appear, not becoming distracted or attached, but remaining with a very firm mind, this is the ascetic practice of mind. Practicing with these three kinds of asceticism is common to both outer and inner. The difference is that the one who holds to outer asceticism does not eat food, but remains in fasting, and bathes three times a day. If hungry, one should eat cow dung. If the body cannot be sustained by that, it should be mixed with cow's milk and drunk. Or the five products of the cow should be well mixed and drunk. The ritual for mixing them well is this: first, mix cow dung and cow urine, knead them well, and let them sit for a while. Then, separate the clear liquid from the top and the sediment from the bottom, take the middle portion, making it moderately thick, and mix it with cow's milk, ghee, and curd, cook it well, and drink it from time to time. If one cannot do that, one can also eat pure and praised foods such as the three white things, and after bathing well, practice asceticism. The three great times of the day are: immediately after waking up in the morning, noon, and before going to sleep in the evening. For the remaining times, the whole body should be washed after major excretions. For minor excretions and spitting, the mouth and hands should be washed. When foul air passes through the upper and lower body,
