In one place, the wind called "Moon" arises from the left nostril, and it pervades half of the first thun (time period). Then it shifts, and half of the seven thuns remains the same as before. The shifting continues until half of it disappears. As is the day, so is the night. These are the sixteen shifts. Half of that is "cho tshod," and each hour has two moments of "Great Power." Each moment is called "dbyu gu," and when it flows upwards, it is fire. What arises on both sides is wind. What arises downwards is water. What arises from the center is Great Power. As it is said in the Explanatory Tantra: When it abides in the center, when it arises from the two wisdoms of anyone, when it pervades downwards, moment by moment, wind arises. The four shifts should be understood, and the four "dbyu gu" should be observed. Just as "dbyu gu," "dbyu gu," combine oneself and give the torma. Similarly, on the first day of the waxing moon, the wind called "Sun" arises from the right nostril, and so it is until between the second and third days. On the fourth, it shifts from the Sun to the Moon, and so it arises until between the fifth and sixth days. Then it shifts again to the Sun, and so it arises until between the seventh, eighth, and ninth days. Then it shifts again to the Moon, and so it arises until between the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth days. Then it shifts again to the Sun, and so it arises until between the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth days. The Moon, which first arises from the waxing half of the month, will eventually disappear. As is the day, so is the night. This should also be devoted to the union of the night. For earth and water, it is virtuous activity; for fire and wind, it is the activity of killing. The Moon should be known as truly good, and the Sun is middling. If one does something inauspicious to the Sun, it is certain death. If it arises in the Moon, it will not give great suffering. As it is said in the Explanatory Tantra. Now, the actions of common accomplishments spoken by the yogi: Always eat a little, and likewise drink a little, and also the essence of all foods, offer to Yama, the Lord of Death. "Always" means until the end of life. "A little" means "tham," so what need is there to mention eating a lot? That

Drinking a little beverage is timely. Furthermore, all food refers to enjoyment without time restrictions or categories. Essence is enjoyment, offered to please the external and internal Yama, the Lord of Death. Besides this, one should also gather the necessities of life, for the purpose of making one's own wisdom excellent. Now, in order to accomplish supreme siddhi by pleasing the guru, one should practice, and then one should truthfully declare. Offerings should be made to the guru. All activities should be accomplished, in order to pacify oneself. Because the guru is the basis from which qualities arise. Offering is the root of pleasing the guru's mind. Activities are accomplishing mandalas and so forth, and striving to attain the quiescence of oneself, the non-abiding nirvana, is necessary. The activity of service, offering oneself and so forth, is easy to understand. The one with ascetic practices, in the tantra that is spoken, establishes it as close in meaning to this, the bodhisattva who will benefit others in the future, possessing wisdom, adorned with the power of giving, courageous, holding asceticism in mind. This is precisely saying that one should make offerings to the guru in this way. The body, speech, and mind of all the Tathagatas, the tantra of Black Yama, Lord of Death, has been spoken. The near need is what is suitable for the nature of the yogi's enjoyment. The distinction of activities is recitation and torma. "All" refers to the holy one who is respectfully served. Sequential division refers to the distinctions of each. The twelfth chapter is established by the eleventh. The twelfth chapter spoken by Black Foot has been extensively clarified. Chapter Twelve: The extensive clarification of what is called "All the distinctions of the activities of near need."
