Commentary on the Method of Accomplishing Glorious Samantabhadra, Tāgana. Commentary on the Method of Accomplishing Glorious Samantabhadra. Tāgana. In Indian language: Śrīsamantabhadrasādhanavṛtti. In Tibetan: Commentary on the Method of Accomplishing Glorious Samantabhadra. Homage to the Bhagavan Mañjuvajra. The preceptor, venerable Buddha-jñāna, in order to follow the conduct of the holy ones, first composes the homage to the Bhagavan Mañjuvajra. Its necessity is this: that merit may increase, obstacles may be pacified, and the exposition and hearing of the expounder and listener may become perfect. That homage should also be regarded as the manner of paying homage with body, speech, and mind through the gateway of clearly expressing excellent qualities. Moreover, stating the true qualities should be regarded as the cause of the perfection of one's own benefit and the perfection of one's own benefit itself, as well as the cause of the perfection of others' benefit and the perfection of others' benefit itself. Among these, "Glorious," and so forth, is the homage to the Bhagavan Mañjuvajra. Here, also, one should regard the Bhagavan as being distinct from the aspect of the Bhagavan's splendor. Its general meaning is this: Whatever Bhagavan Mañjuśrī is, that is the Mañjuśrī who is blazing with glories endowed with glory and so forth, beautiful and adorned, and in order to make offerings to him, one prostrates to him, and with the secret mantra of Śrī Guhyasamāja, one will explain the method of meditating on the Bhagavan Mañjuśrī, as well as the manner of the first application, and so forth. This was spoken by the Bhagavan preceptor. The meaning of the limbs should also be stated: Glory is the nature of the accumulation of merit and wisdom; whoever possesses that, who possesses splendor, is glorious. This states the cause of the perfection of one's own benefit, because the accumulations of merit and wisdom are the cause of omniscient wisdom. These also distinguish Brahma and so forth, if one is overly attached to pursuing worldly glory.

Therefore, it is because these are held to be real that there are terms such as "Glorious." The word "Glory" here is because it has the meaning of showing the accumulation of merit and wisdom. The term "All Ignorance Removed" means all ignorance, that is, all unknowing. To abandon these is to eliminate them. That is, by the splendor, all ignorance is eliminated, and therefore it is immaculate. Since all ignorance has been removed and it is also immaculate, it is said, "All Ignorance Removed, Possessing Immaculate Splendor." This explains the perfection of one's own benefit, because the immaculate splendor symbolizes that this immaculate one possesses all-knowing wisdom. In this way, these are also distinguished from the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. The phrase "Adorned by Limitless Families of Emanations" means that it is both immeasurable and a family, so it is a Limitless Family. It should be regarded as the families of the Tathagatas and so on. The emanations of these families are what are emanated. That which possesses these qualities is "Adorned by Limitless Families of Emanations." This explains the perfection of benefiting others, because various emanations are displayed for the sake of benefiting others. These are mentioned in order to completely eliminate the concept of lower yoga and place it in the concept of unsurpassed yoga, so it is said, "Assembly of Wisdom Limbs." Wisdom is the awareness that appears as one's own nature, and it should be regarded as the nature of non-dual wisdom. Its limb is the limb of wisdom. Gathering there is the Assembly of Wisdom Limbs. Because it shines and is extremely beautiful, it is called "Assembly of Wisdom Limbs, Shining and Extremely Beautiful." This explains the cause of the perfection of benefiting others, because the splendor of those who possess pure wisdom becomes the cause of benefiting others. Gentle means soft, because it is closely enjoyed by all. Glory is characterized by merit and wisdom, and I pay homage to the one who possesses these.
