The manner of paying homage. To the gentle-voiced Vajra, like Indra's bow, I prostrate. Those dwelling in the mire of samsara, You lead with the hand of compassion, You satisfy with the nectar of wisdom, I bow to the lotus feet of the Guru. Supreme of the supreme, with the two paths (of skillful means and wisdom), Purifying oneself among animals, Constantly entering into the meaning of self-nature, You know how I am. This is like a secret assembly of precious treasures, Who would desire to take this? Like a helmsman preparing a ship, This is the arising of the Bodhisattva who composes this. With secret and most secret mind, I have viewed all inner and outer meanings. If that is foolish and wisdom declines, what then? For the sake of benefit, I compose a precious tree. The holy ones have prayed to me, therefore I am exceedingly joyful, With my own venerable scriptures, I explain it well. So that self and others may remember and not forget those scriptures, I will explain the Secret Assembly as much as I can. The words, meaning, connection, necessity, and necessity of necessity of this, must first be stated without omission. Why? Because listeners who are wise and have prior discernment do not accept it. Therefore, the nature of all Buddhas, equal to the realm of space, the great Vajradhara of the Secret Assembly, is the general meaning. The various distinctions from the beginning of the tantra to the conclusion are the extensive meaning. The activities of both the teacher and the practitioner are the special meaning. From "Thus I have heard" to "remained silent," are the words of the text. Arranged in eighteen chapters are the words of the chapters. Every four lines is a verse. Those and the meanings, in order, abiding in the nature of skillful means and what arises from skillful means, are the connection. Those such as outcastes who are prohibited in other tantras are said to be those who should be tamed. But in the great and also great tantra, there is not one impure, so the means of taming them, such as entering the mandala, is the necessity. By the power of that teaching, obtaining the common and great seal positions as appropriate, is the necessity of necessity. Because it is complete with those, it is said to be the true Dharma. Now, from "Thus I have heard" to "appears to be full."
