A Commentary on the Five Stages by Lilavajra A Commentary on the Five Stages By Lilavajra A Commentary on the Condensed Method of Accomplishment In Indian language: Pañcakrama-vipaṛṇa. In Tibetan: A Commentary on the Five Stages. Homage to the noble and venerable Avalokiteśvara! In order to benefit sentient beings who possess the downfall of adhering to extremes, whoever realized and taught with the wisdom of the Middle Way. Therefore, having paid homage to Nāgārjuna, born from the Victorious Ones, I will clarify those aspects of the Five Stages that are not clear. Here, after the noble Nāgārjuna realized the glorious Guhyasamāja, intending to compose a method of accomplishment called "Condensed," he spoke of paying homage to the Bhagavan who possesses the nature of the four bodies, saying, "Liberated from the realm of the three worlds," and so forth. It is explained that homage and reverence are paid to the bodies of those who have defeated the four maras. Bliss is expressed as the word for the union of great bliss. Unequaled, equal is the uniqueness of the unequaled. Equal is the same. The meaning of "one without thought" is: without thought because it is free from discrimination. One is non-dual. Body is that which possesses the thirty-two marks of excellence. The meaning of "liberated from the realm of the three worlds" is: because it is free from discrimination, the three worlds, that is, the beings of the three worlds who are stirred up by discrimination and to whom names are applied, are completely abandoned. The meaning of "thought equal to space" is: it is the wisdom that realizes that the object of emptiness alone is equal to space. The meaning of "the nature of all things" is: it is the nature of all phenomena, such as form, that arise from the nature of emptiness. Purity is because it is free from the two kinds of obscurations. Peace is because it is the chief of the taste of peace. Complete solitude is the ultimate truth, that is, the nature of emptiness. The meaning of "this supreme field" is: because it is the practice of all virtues. The meaning of "the yogi himself is the object" is: because there is no intelligence that others believe in. The meaning of "difficult to realize" is: because it is not the object of direct valid cognition for those beginning with Mañjuśrī.
