Chapter Four: Cutting Doubts by Gathering the Solitude of Mind Chapter Four: Cutting Doubts by Gathering the Solitude of Mind Then one should learn the solitude of mind. Therefore, the Vajra disciple should speak prayers and so on. If one wishes to learn the solitude of mind, it is to desire the complete purification of the mind and to regard things as mind-only. To be particularly devoted to the profound is to be supremely engaged in meditation. There are two types: engaging in Suchness and engaging in Abhisamaya. Here, it refers to the former. To benefit them is to enable them to attain supreme accomplishment. Vajra Master, please explain! This is a prayer to dispel the doubts in our minds. Thus asked and answered. The oral instructions of all Tathagatas are so called to those who possess special abilities. Someone might think, is this the common ground for all people? The answer is: it is not the ground for those who look outward. Those who look outward are of two types: general and specific. The general aspect refers to outsiders who are hostile to the Buddha's teachings, deceived by evil demons, relying on non-holy beings, and abandoning truly holy beings. This is not their realm. The specific aspect refers to Hearer Arhats, Solitary Buddhas, and those who abide in the Bhumis and Paramitas. They are also not in this realm. Therefore, those who have abandoned the Guhyasamaja Tantra, the Kriya Tantra, the Charya Tantra, both, and those who abide in other Anuttara Tantras are also not in this realm. Why is that? Because they are not of the same kind. Those who are not of the same kind do not enter into this. Those who do not enter cannot abandon afflictions. Those who cannot abandon afflictions cannot attain the two fruits. Therefore, they are also those who look outward. Then, what kind of pure Bhikshu should practice this supreme secret? This refers to those who are separated from the Bhikshu's precepts. Only those who abide in the Bhikshu's precepts will achieve it.

Ro. Why is that? Because it is inseparable from the basis. If someone says that a person who does not keep the precepts of a monk will achieve excellence, but one who keeps the precepts of a monk will not, that is not correct. There are two types of not keeping the precepts: not keeping them after abandoning them and not keeping them from birth. Not keeping them after abandoning them is like Devasdatta leaving the city and not living in the city, but that is not the case here. This is not keeping them from birth, like a person not staying at the height of a cubit. Therefore, this is excluded. The word 'not keeping' also has no particular meaning. The Blessed One said, 'Son of good family, the word 'not keeping' has no particular meaning; it should be understood according to the situation.' In what situation should it be understood? For example, in a virtuous situation, one abandons non-virtue and does not stay, one abandons virtue, etc., and does not stay. In a non-virtuous situation, it is the opposite. What is beneficial for that? It is the yoga of the great vehicle Guhyasamaja. What is not an object? It is a category different from that. Therefore, if everything is liberated through Guhyasamaja, then other methods will also become meaningless. Very profound means difficult to understand. The realm of activity of the Buddhas is that which has become the object of knowledge of the Buddhas. What is that? It is the mind, because of thinking about meaning and diversity. What is the nature of that mind? It is said to be without a place to abide, etc., which is easy to understand. Where is that itself said from? It is taught from the Tantra called 'Teaching All Tantras'. So, where is the nature of the mind taught so that it can be understood? Abiding in the Vajrayana, wanting to attain Buddhahood, the Vajrayana is taught as the path of wisdom and compassion. The one who abides there is the practitioner himself. What is to be attained by him? It is the fruit, Buddhahood, the Buddha who has abandoned and increased the seeds of contaminated and uncontaminated. Wanting to attain means relying, it means relating in a way of relying. What does he rely on? He relies on the virtuous friend, the holy guru, and pleases the guru. What does he seek from the guru? His own mind.
