A Detailed Explanation of "The Lamp That Compiles Conduct" Shakya Shri Bhadra A Detailed Explanation of "The Lamp That Compiles Conduct" Shakya Shri Bhadra Chapter One: Severing Doubts In the language of India: Carya Mucaya Pradipa Nama Tika. In the language of Tibet: A Detailed Explanation of "The Lamp That Compiles Conduct." Homage to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Manjushri! Beings are covered by the darkness of ignorance, constantly blind and without desire for virtue. To guide them, I praise the excellence of the Buddhas. The supreme secret, the very essence, constantly gives rise to supreme bliss. The secret teachings spoken by the Buddhas are based on the ground. For those of different lineages who are not of the ultimate lineage, the Shravakas and others are taught. The lineage of the Great Vehicle, the tantras to be practiced by those who are inferior and superior. The Action Tantras, the Ubhaya Tantras, and the Unsurpassed Yoga Tantras. Whatever is spoken, I prostrate with the three doors in reverence. By relying on the words that explain the six limits and so forth, For the benefit of remembering Samantabhadra's essence, By relying on the sutras and tantras that explain the gathering of the Buddhas, Joy constantly arises in the order of accomplishing that very thing. Unwavering, realizing the meaning of the supreme secret, The Teacher who has mastered the meaning of completion. Wrote the five stages and their conduct. Whatever yogi is skilled in truth, Whatever has not been distinguished, distinguishes it. That is the supreme prophecy of the holy ones. Explanation and the six limits and so forth, many kinds. The basis and the result, the nature are all excellent. The king, the powerful essence, The preliminary connection, the conventional truth, The meaning is gathered into three aspects. The cause, the means, and the result. The cause is the lineage of the Great Vehicle, Adorned with virtuous qualities. The means are of two kinds, The empowerment and its practice. The result is the common accomplishment of the three bodies. Or also with abandonment. Those meanings are well gathered, Liberated like a lamp. Towards whom there is no respect for the holy guru. It is not done for that. If asked why this means of accomplishing reality is composed? Thus, it is for the sake of individuals of the Great Vehicle lineage to attain the supreme result.

Then, why are they not taught in the great yoga tantras such as the Guhyasamaja? It is because in times of strife, sentient beings have short lives, are attached to enjoyment, and have little wisdom, so that they can understand. Or, at that time, they will not enter special tantras either. Rather than just entering that secret tantra, when the four strifes are flourishing, those with short lives, little wisdom, and extremely poor enjoyment have no chance to enter the secret. Bodhisattvas will write treatises according to the customs of sentient beings. It will bring benefit in times of strife. It is like this. Then, is each step beneficial, or are all steps beneficial? If it is like the first statement, then it is not a ladder of steps. If it is like the latter statement, then the statement "one step can manifest enlightenment" is not valid. It is not like that, like this, for a person who has such a nature, each step is also beneficial. Depending on others, in terms of a person's capacity, it is five steps and so on. Furthermore, one step is also called a ladder of steps, entering through hearing and so on, like a ladder. In terms of meditation, the first is to enter the momentary yoga, then ten moments and so on, like a ladder of steps. That is to enter the limbs, for this, like "unreality, purity, equality of space," etc., first the teacher prostrates to the deity in whom he believes. For this, unreality is unreality, which means being free from the aspects of grasping and being grasped. Or, the clear bodhicitta bindu in the heart is also called unreality, because it is very close to luminosity. "Without remainder, without words, without letters," means that all reality and unreality have not become objects of expression in language. Why? Because all are pure by nature. It is also beyond words and letters, it is the vajra beyond. Completely penetrating the past and future is like illusion, in all times such as the past, it functions as it is. Or, the past and so on are serpentine and so on.
