For the sake of long-term habitation in this world, the enlightened Nāgārjuna obtained the meaning of goodness and happiness, and understood the intentions of others. The monk Palden, who emerged well from the land of Beta, whose name is Nāgārjuna, understood his intention. Destroying all discordant meanings, bestowing the meaning of goodness, I pleased the monk Śākya Mitra of glorious Jambudvipa with seven precious things, both actual and imagined. By his power, I was not confused about the secret meaning, and it appeared in my mind. Practicing for a long time, according to the time, activity, and intention, well adorned with nine qualities, perfectly complete with correct view, by the power of that well-accomplished one, I was struck by the rays of the noble one. With the power of compassion, like the light of the sun, he looked upon the benefit of sentient beings. With the sword of wisdom that dispels the fog of afflictions, having cut it well, I explained its meaning as it is, according to the intention of the noble one. The monk named Dharma Mati, who resides well in the city of Kuśa, explained the distinction between the two stages along with the precepts. Those sentient beings who see actions without action by him, became confused about the meaning of that secret. To make a lamp like darkness, I felt joy. Those sentient beings who are always confused about that meaning, bound by the lasso of desire, and other texts, and whose power is not seen, are like kalpas. Therefore, the Victorious Ones have spoken of this meaning. With secret mantras, body, and so on, the generation stage and the completion stage are spoken for the sake of the assembly and disciples. With the generation stage, having completely abandoned the gross conceptualizations, later, with the completion stage, one purifies the subtle conceptualizations. Mantras and so on.
