First Chapter: Explanation of Vajra Recitation. First Chapter: Explanation of Vajra Recitation. Having thus arranged the body of the treatise, now, beginning with the verses of homage, let us explain each word individually. To the phrase "Lord of all Buddhas," add the phrase "Having paid homage to the glorious Great Bliss, I shall explain the order of Vajra Recitation." The glorious Great Bliss is the great Vajradhara, because he manifests the bliss that is constant, uninterrupted, and unequaled in his body. Therefore, here, the body of the Bhagavan is also of two kinds: the nature of wisdom and the nature of perfect enjoyment. Among these, the nature of wisdom is all the Buddhas in the form of the five wisdoms, because he generates the Tathagatas, such as Akshobhya, and therefore pervades all minds, being the nature of all Buddhas. The nature of perfect enjoyment is that which is adorned with the thirty-two major marks of a great being and the eighty minor marks, and causes all sentient beings to be thoroughly placed on the path. The protector is the savior, up to the point of being worthy of refuge. Thus, with two kinds of words, in accordance with the order, having paid homage to the body of the Bhagavan, which is of a profound and vast nature, what should be done? The answer is: "I shall explain the order of Vajra Recitation." Vajra Recitation is the nature of the order that will be explained below, meaning that the order of Vajra Recitation should be explained. From where should it be explained? Starting from the phrase "Yoga Tantra," etc., Yoga is the samadhi of the mind, and the Tantra in which it is the main focus is the Yoga Tantra. "Following after that" means the meaning of relying upon. Therefore, following after the Yoga Tantra, here, having paid homage to the Bhagavan who is endowed with all perfections and qualities, immediately after that, it is said how to enter the discipline of the order of the two verses, and how the order pervades like a precious thread, that is, the phrase "Generation Stage," etc. Among these, this is the first stage of generation.

Those who are learning through the generation stage and desiring manifestation through the completion stage, for them, the Bhagavan, through compassion, clearly shows the nature of the five stages of means to be obtained, like a series of steps. Just as a staircase becomes the cause for climbing a mansion, similarly, for the purpose of obtaining the state of desired manifestation, the wise should understand this sequence. The term "life," etc., becoming life means the meaning of holding and sustaining. What is it? It is called "wind," which is all-pervasive and moving. Sentient being means having a body, because without wind, there is no going and coming. Since it performs all the actions of the movement and all-pervasive movement of those two, it is called "doer of all actions." The term "consciousness," etc., consciousness is the mind, its vehicle is like a person riding a chariot or a horse. It is said: On the vehicle called wind, consciousness rides and performs all actions. This is the meaning. Thus it will be shown: Wind is the nature of emptiness, and after consciousness mixes with everything, it arises from the root gate, and is called objectifying the object. Here also, due to the difference between sutra and extensive commentary, it becomes five and ten types. The winds called life wind, downward moving wind, wind co-dwelling with fire, upward moving wind, and pervasive wind are the five types. Clear movement, pervasive movement, correct movement, extreme movement, and definite movement are also five types. The first five are attached to the actions of the body. The latter five rely on the five senses to hold onto objects. Among them, the so-called life wind resides in the heart, is of an immovable nature, and is the breath called life. The downward moving wind resides in the anus of the lower part, is the nature of the arising of jewels, and causes the expulsion of impurities, etc. The upward moving wind resides in the throat, is the nature of immeasurable light, moves upward, and also takes in sounds, etc. The equalizing wind resides in the navel, is the nature of accomplishing meaning, and equalizes sounds, etc.
