The establishment of the order of explanation. The establishment of the order of explanation. First order: Explanation of Vajra Recitation. Having thus arranged the body of the treatise, now, beginning with the verses of homage, we shall explain each word individually. To "Lord of all Buddhas," and so forth, connect the phrase, "Having bowed to glorious Great Bliss, I shall explain the order of Vajra Recitation." Glorious Great Bliss is the great Vajradhara, because he constantly, uninterruptedly, and incomparably experiences the bliss of the body. Therefore, here also, the body of the Bhagavan is of two kinds: the nature of wisdom and the nature of perfect enjoyment. Among these, the nature of wisdom is all the Buddhas in the form of the five wisdoms, who generate the Tathagatas, such as Akshobhya, and therefore pervade all minds, being the nature of all Buddhas. The nature of perfect enjoyment is that which is adorned with the thirty-two major marks and eighty minor marks of a great being, and which thoroughly establishes all sentient beings on the path. He is the protector, the savior, up to "worthy of refuge." Thus, with two kinds of words, in order, having paid homage to the Bhagavan's body, which is of a profound and vast nature, what should be done? The answer is: "I shall explain the order of Vajra Recitation." Vajra Recitation is the manner of the nature of the order to be explained below, meaning that the order of Vajra Recitation should be explained. From where? From the words "Yoga Tantra," and so forth. Yoga is the samadhi of the mind, and the tantra in which it is the main focus is the Yoga Tantra. Following after that means relying upon. Therefore, having followed the Yoga Tantra, here, having paid homage to the Bhagavan who is endowed with all perfect qualities, immediately the precepts for entering the order of the two verses, and how the order that pervades like a jeweled thread is shown, are explained, namely, "The Generation Stage," and so forth. Among these, from this

For those who are learning through the generation stage and wish to attain realization through the completion stage, the Blessed One, with the other shore of compassion, has clearly explained the method of obtaining the characteristics of the fifth stage as being like a series of steps. Just as a series of steps becomes the cause for climbing a mansion, so too, in order to obtain the state of realization, the wise should understand this sequence. The meaning of 'life,' etc., is that becoming life means holding and sustaining. What is it? It is called 'wind,' which is universally moving. Sentient beings are those with bodies, because without wind, there is no going and coming. Since it performs all the actions of the movement and universal motion of these two, it is called 'doer of all actions.' The meaning of 'consciousness,' etc., is that consciousness is the mind, and its vehicle is like a person riding in a chariot or on a horse. It is said thus: 'On the vehicle called wind, consciousness rides and performs all actions.' This is its meaning. It will be explained thus: 'Wind is the nature of emptiness, and consciousness is completely mixed with it, arising from the sense gates, it is called focusing on an object.' Here also, by the difference between sutra and extensive commentary, it is divided into five and ten types. The wind called life, the downward-moving wind, the wind that dwells with fire, the upward-moving wind, and the pervasive wind, these are the five types. Clearly moving, completely transforming, correctly moving, extremely moving, and definitely moving, these are the five types. The first five are completely attached to the actions of the body. The latter five rely on the five senses to grasp objects. Among them, the wind called life dwells in the heart, is of an unmoving nature, and is the breath called life. The downward-moving wind dwells in the lower anus, is of the nature of the origin of jewels, and expels impurities, etc. The upward-moving wind dwells in the throat, is of the nature of immeasurable light (Sanskrit: Amitābha), moves upward, and also takes in sounds, etc. The equalizing wind dwells in the navel, is of the nature of accomplishing meaningful purposes, and takes in food, etc.
