Entering well. If there is no merit of words, one will be despised. Having heard many tantras and possessing knowledge, one knows the meaning of words. Possessing mindfulness, intelligence, retention, and diligence. With reverence for the guru's feet and having received transmission. One is suitable to teach tantras and instructions. Thus it is said. This meaning is from the Vajra Garland. Because it is secret, it is summarized. For those who are difficult to tame, hypocritical, and deceitful, ignorant, angry, and evil, those who are skeptics from beginningless time, those who approach with signs, those who are Shravakas and greedy for wealth, those who denigrate reality, those who do not understand the ultimate truth, those who view as non-existent and have broken vows, those who transmit words, one should not associate with demons and the like. Even if the qualities of the guru and disciple are understood, how should one act with respect, having doubts in mind. One should dispel one's doubts with the subtle points of sutras, tantras, rituals, and the oral transmission from the guru. Listen with a very joyful mind. There is another reason. Then, the Bhagavan Vajra spoke. The conduct of the disciple is that subtle actions and the like should also be done with mantra and yoga stages. Shoes, umbrellas, topknots, etc., and tasting toothpaste, etc., discarding mucus, phlegm, etc., stretching legs, looking around, speaking loudly, being proud of lineage, ego-grasping, looking at kings, etc., speaking carelessly, not meditating on the guru's instructions. For such faults, one should completely abandon them in front of the guru. Joining palms in fear, bowing with the head, receiving instructions. Vowing to give up all one's possessions, with wonder and shame on one's face. The disciple should act like this in front of the guru. If one desires supreme accomplishment, disciples should know to act like this in front of the guru. The samaya vows previously spoken, those are the conduct of the disciple. Thus it was declared. Again it was said, the guru who is the basis of all qualities, in order to accomplish, one should strive diligently, in order to conquer the hordes of demons, like an ornament, one should respectfully place him on the crown of one's head. Because the Buddhas and body, speech, and mind, as well as qualities and activities are completely equal. One should always visualize him in front, with body, speech, and mind.

All vast roots, are dedicated for the sake of perfect enlightenment. Towards the one who speaks the Dharma, regardless of their lineage, appearance, learning, and how they may be scorned for their bad behavior, since one relies on the Dharma, one should not generate a mind of contempt. One should not be filled with pride by gains, fame, learning, discipline, and qualities such as appearance. It is not for the sake of knowledge, benefit, or acquisition that one desires, but in short, it is to subdue the mind of afflictions. Thus and so forth, for the sake of the boundless and supreme, towards one's own Lama who is complete with all qualities, with the three doors of body, speech, and mind, to serve with reverence in limitless ways, who could possibly speak of it even in an eon? In brief, what is said is this: just like the precious ones such as the Buddha, and one's own failures, one's own body, one's own cherished wealth, just as one protects and accomplishes what one is attached to. The teaching on the conduct of the Lama and disciple, this is the end of the first chapter. Chapter One: The Teaching on the Conduct of the Lama and Disciple.
