A Treatise Called "Purifying the Obscurations of the Mind," by Āryadeva. A Treatise Called "Purifying the Obscurations of the Mind." By Āryadeva. In Indian language: Cittāvaraṇa viśodhana nāma prakaraṇaṃ. In Tibetan: A Treatise Called "Purifying the Obscurations of the Mind." Homage to the feet of the venerable lama. Homage to youthful Mañjuśrī. Peaceful, without beginning or end, abandoning reality and unreality, without conceptualization, without object, without abiding, non-dual, without going, without example, unspeakable, invisible, without abiding, without place, uncompounded because unchangeable. The abode of all Buddhas, the body is the very nature of compassion. To beings with various inclinations, showing various skillful means. Homage to great desire, homage to you, lotus master. In order to realize one's own mind, I will speak briefly. The assembly of Yogācārins, completely certain of everything, these are to be spoken, therefore these should be practiced. By what intense karma are beings bound in what places, if with means, then by that, one will be liberated from the bonds of existence. Because the mind-only is completely pure, the result will be completely pure. These are very extensive, clearly shown in the Great Vehicle. Dharma and person are undifferentiated, the Thus-Gone One taught that it is only wisdom. Even so, it arises in this way, and is also very consistent with reason. In order to dispel the attachment of those possessed by the demon of grasping at reality, it is also clear in the scriptures, extensively taught as the very nature of compassion. Mind precedes all dharmas, mind is the chief, mind is swift, even effort is with two minds, either speaking or acting. A monk's own old father, urged him to chase quickly, even if he died after being urged, it is not an immediate crime. A very sick Arhat, said to the monk attending the sick, I will block the throat, showing that there is no fault even if he dies. Thinking of others with other thoughts, it is a fault to die and should not be done, thus it is clearly shown in the scriptures. Therefore, the mind is virtuous.

There is no fault. Now, with the mind of fabrication, Even destroying a stupa is faultless, Even committing deeds close to the five heinous crimes, Is solely a collection of merit. With a good intention, two leather shoes, Were placed on the head of the Able One, And when that was removed by another, Both will attain royal power. Therefore, from the root of intention, Merit and sin exist separately. Because it is said thus in the scriptures, There is no fault in a virtuous mind. By the nature of uniting oneself with the deity, Striving to act for the benefit of beings, Even if a yogi enjoys desirable objects, He will be liberated and not stained. Just as one knows the nature of poison, One can use poison and eat it. This one will not faint, But will only be freed from illness. Like illusions, mirages, and the cities of gandharvas, And like dreams, Looking at all beings in this way, What, how, and who enjoys? Children are attached to form, Intermediate ones will become detached. If one knows the nature of form and so on, The supreme wise ones will be liberated. Having contemplated all vows, With the ritual of offering to the deity, View it as good without doubt. Encourage with mantras and enjoy. With the combination of three letters, Purify, realize, and likewise burn. With the tips of the ring finger and thumb, Thus satisfy the Tathagatas. For children, this is true, For yogis, it is false. Enjoying only that much, There is neither bondage nor liberation. Samsara and nirvana, Are the minds of those who have not seen that. No samsara, no nirvana, Are the minds of those who have seen that. The great demon of conceptual thought, Is the cause of falling into the ocean of samsara. The nature of non-conceptualization is most excellent, It will be liberated from the bonds of existence. The harm of the poison of doubt, Is like beings harmed by poison. Having uprooted that from the root, With the nature of compassion, Act. For example, a pure crystal ball, Is changed by other colors. Likewise, this precious mind is also, Changed by the paint of conceptual thought. If the precious mind becomes empty, With the paint of ordinary conceptual thought, Then the primordially pure, unborn, The original nature, the stainless one, Whatever children slander, Then
