Chapter Fourteen: The Extensive Explanation Called "Summoning the Miraculous Body, Speech, and Mind, the King of Emanations, Through Mantras. Beginning with "Now," the explanation of Chapter Fourteen will be undertaken. The manner of reciting mantras is characterized by pacification and so forth. "Following after" refers to following the mantras that are in accordance with it. Because mantras such as those for snakes perform actions such as pacification, as taught in the Vajra Pinnacle and other texts. The reason for explaining this is to accomplish pacification and so forth through mantras. The intention is that although the collection of actions has been taught from Chapter Thirteen onwards, all of those require meditation as a prerequisite. Chapter Fourteen teaches that these are to be accomplished through mantras, meditation, and substances. "Order" means sequence. The explanatory tantra is from the Vajra Garland. "Pacifying and increasing, perform on the waxing moon." And so on, pacifying is to be free from disease when oppressed by disease. Increasing is to make those without wealth or with little wealth possess grain and gold, and so forth. "On the waxing moon" means to perform it at the time when the moon gradually increases. Because the moon brings about the pacification and increase of suffering. Subjugation is to make those who do not adhere to the teachings adhere to them. Wrathful action is to kill the difficult to tame with compassion. The word "etc." includes other fierce actions such as stiffening, separating, summoning, and hating. The waning moon is to be performed in order during the time when the moon wanes, in order to create confusion, bewilderment, and fear, which is the determination of time. Face north to perform pacifying actions, because Vaishravana conquers diseases. Facing east is to perform increasing actions, because Indra always brings about increase. In the south, perform fierce actions, because Yama is the terminator of the world. Subjugation and summoning are performed in the west.
