The Practice of Glorious Black Goddess, by Naropa. The Practice of Glorious Black Goddess. Naropa. In Indian language: Shriya Devi Kali Sadhanopika. In Tibetan: The Practice of Glorious Black Goddess. Homage to the Glorious Black Goddess! The yogi who wishes to practice the Glorious Goddess should prepare abundant and complete offerings. Then, go to a cemetery, under a single tree, a deep valley, an empty house, or a secluded place. First, offer torma to all worldly gods and spirits, including the guardians of the directions, and generously offer libation. Then, create an "E" mandala that is one cubit in all directions, with a height of one cubit. Make three layers of platforms on it. Make three crescent shapes in the middle. Make triangles at the bottom. On each of the bottom triangles, place a skull from a severed lineage, or any skull. Expose the skull, and write black "Ya" letters inside the skull with charcoal ash. Write red "Ma" letters outside the skull with blood. Paint the three crescent shapes red as well. Paint the triangles red. If it is not painted well, there will be such faults: if the color is too thick, the teacher and disciple will have many illnesses; if the color is too thin, the teacher and disciple will lose wealth; if it is tilted, there will be war in the country; if there is an interruption, the teacher and disciple will die quickly. Therefore, use a medium-sized bamboo pen and write by rotating from right to left. The application of color should also extend to twice the size of the triangle. Make the inner triangle black and the outer triangle red. On each vertex of the inner triangle, draw a half-vajra as a mark. Mix ashes and dried blood, and write the mantra seed syllable Hūṃ (嗡,梵文:हूँ,hūṃ,Subjugation) in the center of the "E". On the three corners inside, write བྷྱོཿ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari to be checked, Sanskrit Roman transliteration to be checked, Chinese literal meaning: to be checked), the life essence offered to all mothers. Then, mix Datura juice, raw sheep blood, and black hen blood evenly, grind them into powder, mix with paint, and draw an image of the Glorious Goddess on cemetery cloth. Invite her to reside in the center of the "E" mandala. There, prepare incense and the five complete offering items and make offerings.

Offerings are presented. Furthermore, contemplate oneself as the goddess of samaya. First, in the center of the yogi's heart, visualize a four-petaled lotus, or an eight-petaled lotus complete with its pistil. In the center of that lotus's pistil, visualize the letter Om (藏文:ཨོཾ,梵文天城体:,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:Om) with a diadem, blazing with light. Above that, visualize the letter Ram (藏文:རཾ,梵文天城体:,梵文罗马拟音:raṃ,汉语字面意思:Ram), with the brilliance of Ram, Ram itself blazing like fire. Visualize that fire burning away the body of the self with its conceptual thoughts, turning it into ashes. Then, again in the center of those ashes, contemplate with a peaceful mind. The letter Am (藏文:ཨཾ,梵文天城体:,梵文罗马拟音:aṃ,汉语字面意思:Am), the essence of life, residing on the pistil of the previous lotus. Above that, visualize the letter Vam Then, from that Vam completely transforming, visualize a white vase from whose mouth a stream of nectar flows. Then, from the letter Am (藏文:ཨཾ,梵文天城体:,梵文罗马拟音:aṃ,汉语字面意思:Am), previously described as life, a stream of nectar descends and saturates, so that the letter Am (藏文:ཨཾ,梵文天城体:,梵文罗马拟音:aṃ,汉语字面意思:Am), said to be the best of all letters, is made even more firm and examined by that water, and thus becomes radiant. Contemplate it as being like the moon, snow, milk, jasmine, white clouds, and conch. Then, the mantra of the name of the glorious goddess: Om Maha Kali Devi Karali Vikrante Kala Ratri Chanda Rupini Hum Phat (藏文:ཨོཾ་མ་ཧཱ་ཀཱ་ལི་དེ་ཝཱི་ཀཱ་རཱ་ལི། བི་ཀྲིནྟ། ཀཱ་ལ་ར་ཏྲི། ཙཎྜ་རཱུ་པི་ཎི་ཧཱུཾ་ཕཊ།,梵文天城体:,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ mahākālī devī kārāli vikṛnta kālarātri caṇḍarūpiṇī hūṃ phaṭ,汉语字面意思:Om, Great Black One, Goddess, Terrible One, Cutter, Black Night, Fierce Form, Hum, Phat). Through reciting, from the seed syllable Om (藏文:ཨོཾ,梵文天城体:,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:Om) of the mantra, accomplish the seed syllable as a deity, transform it into the body of the glorious great goddess, and contemplate: Her body color is black, as black as a rakshasa and a bee, extremely seductive, possessing a body of bones, one face and four arms, two legs. In the first of her right hands is a sword, and in the lower one is a skull cup filled with red. She brandishes a khatvanga. In the first of her left hands is a shakti, and in the lower one she holds a trident with a silk banner hanging from its neck. She puts a stiff corpse in her mouth and gnaws with four fangs. Her three eyes are red, rolling back as she gazes. Her hair is disheveled and twisted upwards, coiled to the left. Her hair is adorned with snakes and a garland of skulls. Her right earring is a snake, and a bell tinkles at her neck. Her left earring is the red mane of a lion. On both sides of her ears flutter flower and red silk ribbons. She wears a necklace made of the skulls of asuras and others. Her upper body is covered with the wet hide of an elephant. It is cut from the wet hide of a young cow, with yellow patterns.
