The complete stages of enlightenment are explained through the collection of wisdom, using words. The nature of Dharma is pure, and that nature is without essence. The nature of things is also without essence, thus revealing the complete stages of enlightenment. That is to say, among them, 'nature is without essence' means that because the nature of Dharma is emptiness, it does not actually change, as it is beyond thought. 'Essence is also without nature' means that the objects of focus are also of the nature of emptiness, because they arise from interdependence. Therefore, essence and nature are shown to be inseparable, because dependent arising and emptiness are inseparable. Thus, Nagarjuna says in his "Praise of the Perfection of Wisdom": 'Emptiness is not other than essence, and in emptiness there is no essence. Therefore, dependent arising is emptiness, which you, O Lord, have taught.' This is it. Again and again, furthermore, the complete stages of enlightenment are explained through the collection of merit. 'Firstly, through the method of patience,' and so on. Among them, 'omniscient disciple' means that after the meaning of inner and outer has been shown, the disciple is called omniscient. 'Having generated equality wisdom, one should view all as equal.' This means that having generated the mind of things and non-things, one should view all sentient beings as equal. 'Always practicing equally, strive diligently in the supreme meditative absorption of union.' This means that one should meditate on the samadhi of union with objects of focus, whether existent or nonexistent, which is the summary statement. The example of that alone is shown: 'The basis of beings' craving for generosity, by the growth of fruit like a seed, its sprout, like a tree, will obstruct the path of the traveler.' This means that if a yogi performs generosity and so on with a focus, it will increase like trade, and in the next life it will become a fruit. Because that fruit is a thing of existence, it will obstruct the path of the traveler who transcends suffering, like a tree. What is that unique fruit? It is said: 'For the sake of desiring heavenly enjoyment,' and so on. By the merit of focusing, one will be born in heaven as gods and humans.

Enjoying the land is the cause of falling into samsara, this is a concluding statement. Therefore, yogis practice the meaning of non-duality, and in order to show that one should not abandon, one should not do the activities of signs such as circumambulating stupas, it is said: "One should not do the work of stupas." etc. Why? Because the scriptures are easy to obtain, but the teachings of this (non-duality) are difficult to hear. etc. External scriptures are easy to hear and understand. The meaning of non-duality becomes a pith instruction, and if it is not obtained from the guru, it is difficult to obtain it from other places, so one should only practice it, this is a concluding statement. "The self is a deity, and others are also deities, the deity of the self is supreme." This is because other deities such as Buddha images, and the wisdom and courage deity practiced in one's own heart are the most important, so only practice is praised. Therefore, the Blessed One himself said: "The measure of the body is the mind." This is (the meaning of this sentence). So, what about external Buddha images and stupas? Therefore, it is said: "Because one does not know oneself as form, one should examine Buddha images, etc." This is the end of the "Secret Seat First Chapter Commentary" from the "Auspicious Four Seats View" written by Paṇḍita Smṛtijñānakīrti.
