The Ritual of Receiving Disciples, by Shavari Pada. The Ritual of Receiving Disciples. By Shavari Pada. Preliminary Recitation. ༄། །In Sanskrit: Śiṣyanugrahāvidhināma. In Tibetan: The Ritual of Receiving Disciples. Homage to Vajravarahi. Hereafter, the secret shall be explained. Following the instructions of the Guru, for the sake of realizing various methods of accomplishment, the supreme ritual of receiving disciples. First, for the purpose of receiving disciples, the yogi who possesses the meaning of the four syllables of Śrī Heruka, in a place that is in accordance with his own mind, ༄། །Resides on a soft cushion. Arranges mantras on the fingers of his hands. Places excellent food and drink, perfectly combined with the five amṛtas, in a lotus vessel, and practices according to the ritual. Purifies himself with the substance of bathing. After that, in order to protect the place, himself, and the yogi, the shaking of a handbell precedes. Binds the boundaries with the sound of the mantra of the four-faced deity, Sum-bha, and so forth. Arranges the six armor mantras. Recites the three purification mantras, and thereby protects his mind. After that, on a completely purified square of earth, one cubit in size, a mandala is to be painted. Draws a hexagonal wheel with red sandalwood and so forth. In the center of it, places the seed syllable of the yogini. On the six corners, arranges the mantras of the wheel-turning monarch, and thus, in an instant, generates the mandala of the Bhagavati, endowed with the six heroines. After that, on the outside of it, contemplates the eight forms, such as the Crow-faced Mother, and the eight great charnel grounds. After that, offers perfectly with Argham and so forth. Invites, establishes, binds, and makes inseparable the wheel of wisdom, according to the ritual. Performs the blessings of body, speech, and mind, and so forth. After reaching the culmination of tasting the amṛta, offers praise and asks for forgiveness. Performs the preliminary recitation. The Ritual of Outer Offerings ༄། །After that, for the purpose of receiving disciples, on the tenth day, in the center of the mandala painted in this way. Places a melodious vessel filled with the excellent drink of the gods, and on top of it, places a staff vessel, immaculate.

Anoint with saffron etc., and there sift sindhura powder and write manifestly with a golden stylus according to the ritual. Then, perform the inviting and sending back of the wheel of wisdom, and offer perfectly with offerings etc. After that, praise the eight-legged image of the Blessed Mother Vajrayogini, preceded by the shaking of the vajra and the ringing of the bell, cover it with a red cloth and place it. Then, give torma to the guardians of the directions, recite the hundred-syllable mantra three times, and ask for forgiveness. This is the outer offering ritual from the taking of disciples. The Ritual of Especially Abiding the Vase After that, properly place the vase that possesses all the characteristics and make it especially abide. With a red cloth tied around the neck, adorned with tree leaves such as mango etc., possessing the five precious substances, the five medicines, and the five grains, on the wheel accomplished by that, perform the inviting and sending back of the wheel of wisdom etc., offer the complete offerings such as argham, perform according to the ritual the ultimate of body, speech, and mind blessings, empowerment, and tasting nectar, offer perfectly with offerings etc., and praise with the eight-legged mantra. Place the vajra vase with a garland of red flowers, recite those mantras until satisfied, and dissolve that wheel by scattering red flowers. View it as the very essence. This is the ritual of especially abiding the vase from the taking of disciples. The Ritual of Descending Wisdom After that, for the excellent disciple who has unwavering faith in the guru and the Buddhas, make a mandala and repeatedly pray: The self-nature body of all Buddhas, the guru is the refuge, glorious Vajrayogini, please bless me. Just as offering great offerings to Bodhi Vajra Buddha, in order that I may also be guided, please grant me the space vajra. Thus recite. On the tenth day, the guru who possesses compassion, holding the disciple's hand, speaks thus: The mind covered by conceptual thought, like repeating for the sake of the excellent mantra king, with the water of faith
