"Half of twenty substances" refers to: the four Buddhas Vairochana, Ratnasambhava, Amitabha, and Akshobhya, plus five items with Vajra impurities, and five items known as "Gokudahana," totaling ten. Some say it's ten with vomit. Some say it's saffron. Here, one should also recite an eight-line mantra, or one hundred and eight times a mantra of control. "Born in Malaya" refers to sandalwood. "Red" refers to saffron again. "Lord of disease" refers to rue. "Nourisher" refers to rapeseed. The rest is easy to understand. The root mantra refers to mantras like "Kara Kara," etc. It says this: If you recite the root mantra a million times, then other mantras will be accomplished even if they have not been recited before. After that, you can start various activities. This sentence is the remainder of the phrase "even without reciting." Therefore, it is said "elsewhere," meaning that if you start various activities without reciting the lord of mantras, you will not achieve accomplishment, and thus you will despise the sacred Dharma, etc.
