Those who are not subdued by discipline and empowerment are called wrongdoers. One should learn to follow faith, rely on a guru, and gradually cultivate the mind in common practices. The second, the pure, is one who is naturally endowed with faith, wisdom, and compassion, has little attachment to reality, and is particularly devoted to the profound. Purity through cultivation is the path of learning. Purity of the continuum through the ripening of empowerment is following the Dharma, a person who can quickly generate wisdom. That one naturally abides in the undiminished Dharma, endowed with the qualities of its own nature. The mixed one refers to those of middling faculties, those of uncertain lineage, those subject to conditions. Clarification means not being separated from good friends, striving in meditation, and having some ability to manifest in the samadhi of deities, etc. Among these, the practitioner abides in three. This refers to being determined as the three faculties of superior, middling, and inferior. Or it refers to those who practice hearing, thinking, and meditating. This also shows the continuum of cause. The title of the chapter is: One should know the complete examination of disciples, the distinctions of vessels.
