Chapter Two: Explanation of the Ceremony of Offering to the Retinue. Chapter Two: Explanation of the Ceremony of Offering to the Retinue. Now, in the second chapter, in order to show the preparation of the ground, it is said, "To that," and so on. Among these, "To that" refers to the place where it is spoken as such. "While growing" is related to "the one who has not fallen should begin to do." "The mandala ground should be smeared," and so on, shows the work of the ground. The details of these should be known from the method of accomplishing the mandala. "Acting in the charnel ground," means that with all the substances arising from the charnel ground, one should manifestly prepare five colors of powder. Black powder is made from the ashes of burnt corpses. Red powder is made from bricks. White powder is made from human bone powder. Yellow powder is made from gamboge and burnt bone powder. Green powder is made by mixing human bone powder and green leaf powder. "The terrifying mandala should be drawn," means with those (powders), it should be clearly manifested like the image of a Chakravartin king. "The teacher must be very qualified," means being accustomed to the consecration ceremony. "Knowing the union" means abiding in samadhi, which is what is said as "going to the other shore." That is, first, one washes away all sins with water like an ocean of emptiness, being without sin like the sky, having great compassion and great love, exerting effort, possessing equanimity, making oneself the substance of glorious Heruka. The above ones are easy to understand. "Having made a skull born on the crown of the head," means the forms of the five Tathagatas, adorned on top of the garland of skulls with a hair ornament surrounded by various lights. Anointing the limbs with ashes mixed with the five elixirs means anointing the limbs with ashes. "One segment" means the wheel of five fingers. The remainder is easy to understand. "Possessing a necklace of bone garlands," means a necklace made of fifty human heads strung together. Even if it is not actually available or cannot be done, it should be done through meditation. "Khaṭvāṅga" means the left hand holding a skull. The right hand is preparing to raise the vajra.

The remainder, such as "ga nyi," is easy to understand. Do it that way and write it down. In connection with that, "the thread of the dead" refers to a thread twisted together with someone who has not died, taken from the cemetery without falling, stained with blood, and measured by mixing five nectars. Alternatively, "the thread of the dead" refers to a double thread made from the sinew of someone who has not died. Now, here the dimensions of the mandala are spoken of. "One cubit" etc. is spoken of, starting from one cubit up to twenty cubits. That is the concluding statement that it should not exceed that. "The mantra practitioner carefully analyzes twice," refers to the characteristic of the liquid thread. "Offering" means that which should be offered. What is the measure of the thread and how should it be placed? It is said: By the order of division by parts, place the line on the mandala. And so on. The division of parts is in three ways. From that order, the parts are divided in order. By the order of the parts that enter, place the line of the mandala. That is, by grasping east and west, on the measure of the ground of the mandala, the line should be placed with a double thread, symbolized by a crow's footprint. From the east, give the outer mark to the south. In the west also, it is the same. In the north also, make that the measure. The line should be placed with Brahma's line. Grasp in the eastern direction etc. From placing four lines, then on each side, it becomes the measure of eight parts. Also, by the four corners of the parts, first make a mark on the large part. Measure with the radius line, on the corner line, apply and mark the division. Sixty-four parts are equally possessed. Place steps on all corners with a line. Whenever at the corners individually, when they gather, that is the best of lines. Then, seven by seven parts are discarded, and the outside is encircled by one part. Having averaged in the four directions in that way, encircle from Indra. Being in accordance with the measure of the thread. Whenever the inside is encircled equally, the one who holds the measuring thread. Then, the great bliss wheel, and the measure of body, speech, and mind, are equal to seven by seven parts. Encircle with the best thread. Inside the spokes of the wheel are six parts. With that, it is seen adorned beautifully. The measure of the center and the petals.
