The Difficult Explanation of the Glorious Essence Lamp Tantra, A Garland of Jewels. Composed by Mahāsukhavajra. The Difficult Explanation of the Glorious Essence Lamp Tantra, A Garland of Jewels. Composed by Mahāsukhavajra. In Sanskrit: Śrī Tattvapradīpaṃ nāma tantramālāpañcikā. In Tibetan: The Difficult Explanation of the Glorious Essence Lamp Tantra, Called A Garland of Jewels. Homage to the Glorious Great Bliss. Free from all non-abiding conceptualizations, The essence of all Buddhas is reality itself, Self-awareness, inexpressible, Homage to the great wisdom. Not the realm of ordinary beings, The supreme of unsurpassable tantras, Here, by the entreaty of others, I shall clearly explain the meaning as it is. The provisional and the definitive meaning, From what Vajradhara has spoken, For the definitive, in sequence, I shall differentiate the meaning as it is. Here, endowed with many vajra words, That very sacred meaning of the fruit, With the wish-fulfilling precious jewel, The nature of the garland itself is pervasive. Accomplishing the characteristics of what is needed, This commentary similarly pervades me. This saying, "Thus I," and so forth, "Thus" means showing the faultless manner as it is. "I heard" means it was heard only by gathering, not from transmission elsewhere or arising from hearing from others. With the meaning of dispelling confusion, it was heard only from Vajradhara. "At one time" means at the time when the Bhagavan of wisdom was dwelling with the retinue. Moreover, the particularly suitable place is the one time when the retinue of heroes and heroines were dwelling together. "Bhagavan" means because he has conquered the four maras. Or because he is endowed with all good qualities. "Tathagata" means the Sugatas of the five families and so forth. Differentiated by family means having gone forth from the very nature of great bliss, for the sake of benefiting beings. Or having gone to suchness itself, such as the Buddha Vairocana and so forth. "Everywhere" means dwelling in as many as there are, the Tathagatas of as many as there are without bodies, exemplified by as many as the sands of the Ganges, is a collection of all. "Body, speech, and mind vajra" means the body of all the Buddhas

Since speech, mind, and body are all Vajra, hence Vajradhara. The Bodhisattvas and those who similarly abide in the form of goddesses are the great heroes and the independent mothers. In the manner of abiding on the ten bhumis, the Bodhisattvas abide surrounded by the Bhagavan with emanated retinues from themselves. Abiding in a special palace within the bhaga (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning) of the wisdom of the nature of the Dharmadhatu. It should be said that the Bhagavan, possessing the nature of the three kayas, abides together with the retinue. There, to the Bhagavan—the so-called "Bhagavati Mother" etc.—in the place of abiding, making her happy in various ways, with the meaning of requesting. The so-called "Thus requested" etc., is asking. Others say that these are explained with meanings such as "inner." That is contradictory, because it violates the words of the tantra, so it should not be proclaimed. The so-called "The Bhagavan spoke" etc., is said in this way. Among them, "E-VAM-MA-YA (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning)" since it gathers all the meanings of the tantras, it also proclaims the summary. Here it is shown briefly, while the extensive explanation is shown after this. From other tantras, with the meaning of summary, wisdom and means, Āli (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning) and Kāli (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning), the four wheels, goddesses and four moments, four joys, four suchness, four truths, four classes, and in wooden staffs etc., it is proclaimed to combine these four letters. From other places, there is also a more extensive display than this. Then, it must also be shown without contradiction. With the word "etc." including up to abiding, that is, from "Thus I have heard, at one time" to "abiding in the bhaga of wisdom." With the word "dhatu" indicating the elements. That is, earth, water, fire, and wind. The nature of the three realms, possessing body, speech, and mind, that is, the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm, and also their respective dhatus, there are three in total. Sentient beings are the five types of beings. Non-sentient is the nature of the container world. Or, non-sentient refers to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas etc. Four types of mudras.
