The Fortieth Ear, Clearly Explaining Reliance on Vows. The Fortieth Ear, Clearly Explaining Reliance on Vows. This supreme and excellent fruit is attained solely through reliance on vows, cultivated through the two stages. It is said that this is entered into for the purpose of elaborating on that. "Said" and so forth. Blood is like a flower, even the blood of cows and so on. Fish are like water fish and so on. Meat is like that of cows and so on. How can the mouths of the wisdom heroes, those who have hearths outside and those who meditate inside, be filled with impurity? It is thought that this is not human. The fruit is that of the fire offering. Those who do not know are those who are without correct knowledge, and they are those. The deluded and confused are also those. The wisdom hearth is what will be held. Because of the delusion that external objects such as excrement truly exist, they are not so, but clinging to them, clinging to the nature of their appearance, those who impute impurity and so on are made foolish, not knowing the suchness of things. They make sin by practicing impurity and so on, and they realize merit and wisdom by practicing purity and so on. Therefore, it is thought that one should rely on vows only by focusing especially on the complete purity of one's own nature, and thus the means of true wisdom that stops delusion, the realm of phenomena, is shown to be completely pure by nature. "Self" and so on. Nature is uncreated, and in the ultimate sense, it is emptiness of nature itself. Those who are pure by that are not the nature of impurity and so on. Phenomena are excrement and so on because they hold their own characteristics. Because those who are unborn are by nature devoid of birth, it is clearly thought that one should establish emptiness of nature. In this way, it has already been well established in the Ear of the Middle Way. Because there is no place, they are placeless. That is, they are not the basis of impurity and so on. This reasoning is a means for increasing the knowledge of suchness, and it is said that delusion is diminished by the non-dual wisdom that abides for a long time through meditation, but not by being born in a very short time in all ways, it is thought. If so, then if there is no sin, it is good.
