Chapter Five: The Chapter on Suchness. Chapter Five: The Chapter on Suchness. "Thereafter" refers to following the generation stage. In order to explain the completion stage of the Chapter on Suchness, this introduction is made, saying, "It will be explained." Suchness (Sanskrit: Tattva) means being of one taste in this way, or showing the nature as it is, or being extremely of one taste, or having the meaning of summarizing and being like an essence. With statements such as "self-nature is formless," it mainly shows the view of wisdom. Moreover, the interdependent arising common with the Prajnaparamita is: not arising from oneself, not arising from others, not arising from both, not arising without a cause. And so on, it prevents self-nature from arising, and it is unreasonable for oneself to arise from oneself, because if oneself is established, there is no need, and if oneself is not established, there is no ability. It is unreasonable to arise from no cause, because it is completely non-existent like a rabbit's horn. It is also unreasonable to arise from both, because both the three aggregates of establishment and the three aggregates of refutation are impossible. If it arises from others, does it arise from the past, or from the future, or from the present? This is unreasonable, because cause and effect do not exist simultaneously. It is also unreasonable to arise from the future, because it arises later, so it is not a cause. Then, does it arise from the past? Does it arise from what has perished, or from what has not perished? It does not arise from what has perished, because it no longer exists, like a rabbit's horn. If it arises from what has not perished, then it becomes simultaneous, this is a refutation. The opponent (the former party) says, when does the time of the cause perish, does it perish at the time of the effect? Then, is it cut off by another moment, or not? If it is cut off, then the previously perished one has no cause to produce it. If it is not cut off, then it will also become simultaneous. Because it is made, it is cut off by its own time, and not cut off by other times. Does arising from the previous one not become non-simultaneous? The two, cause and effect, are also included by three moments, because there are three parts: arising, abiding, and ceasing, so it is only the non-severance of other times. If it is a moment, then the thing becomes completely non-existent, like a rabbit's horn. Self-nature is formless, like a vase, is established as a subject, because it is separated from one and many, so it is not truly existent, like illusion and so on. Others have not established the reason, the vase is a part.

If it is said to be a time with parts and also a single one without parts, then it does not exist as in the first case, because it is not one, but has many parts. The many parts are also not established, because even a single direction has six parts. Because a single direction does not exist, the many parts also do not exist. And some say that there are extremely small particles, then it should be examined whether there are parts or not. If there are parts, it is the same as before. If there are no parts, then because there are no parts, the thing becomes formless, like mind and mental factors. Similarly, the person who sees also does not exist. Similarly, sound and so on can also be applied in this way. Some consider the mind to be truly existent, if so, mind does not exist, and mental factors do not exist. Like before, this reasoning is not established. As it is said: The realm of form is called emptiness, and in that very place, there is also sound. From "The object of focus is called emptiness, how does consciousness change in the middle? The ear is called emptiness, how does consciousness exist in the middle?" and so on, it is widely proclaimed. The view of common wisdom, establishing it as in accordance with Madhyamaka, showing it as in accordance with self-cognizant Cittamatra, will be explained in the eighth chapter. The uncommon view, with method as the main focus, is the knowledge of great bliss, shown through "generating mother" and so on. If it is said that "generating mother" and so on are meditation and conduct, this is true, but in the uncommon case, method is the main focus, because the view is the generation of wisdom, or even if it is a method of meditation, it is mainly the method of practicing the view, because it generates the wisdom of individual conceptualization, so do not doubt. That also has three, namely: the wisdom of another's body, relying on the lower gate; one's own body as method, relying on the upper gate; and combining suchness wisdom with non-objectification. Among these, relying on wisdom also has two, namely: the beginner and the mature. For the beginner, "mother" means that one has obtained control over it oneself. "Sister" means that one has obtained control together. "Daughter" means that one has given empowerment oneself. "Always offering" means how it is uninterrupted during the time of empowerment. "Yoga wisdom" refers to the oral instructions of the lama. "Karma" refers to great wisdom. "Dharma mother" refers to transforming with great faith.
