For the sake of compassion. You also manifested asceticism and the manner of tranquility, And also changed language and attire. People, for the sake of joy and their own benefit, Strive to surround you like servants. Protector, you are always to yourself, Without the slightest dominion. For you, at any time and in any place, You will not refuse any request, Your own excellent practice, Has not the slightest regression. Just as you, to those who harm, Extremely bestow benefit, People, to those who benefit, Will not so extremely bestow benefit. You are to the harming enemy, A virtuous friend who bestows benefit, Constantly on those who seek faults, Only seeking virtues. You are invited to places with poison, And with fire, There you go with love, For you, they all become nectar. With patience, treat unpleasant words, With comfort, treat strife, With truth, treat those who speak unpleasant words, You subdued hatred with love. Due to habituation from beginningless time, People's nature has many. You completely reverse the evil realms, In an instant, you completely transform them. The chapter praising asceticism, the eleventh, is complete. Twelfth chapter: Praising the Wise Roughness and gentleness, Miserliness and generosity, And violence subdued by tranquility, These are all your skillful means. Subduing the lord of joy and making him peaceful, Subduing pride and arrogance, And also pacifying the garland of fingers, Who would not give rise to a rare thought? You are satisfied with the taste of Dharma, Abandoning the road paved with gold, In a dwelling covered with coarse grass, Making the dependents sleep in comfort. You know the time and thoughts, Sometimes even if asked, you will not speak, For others who need to be taught, You personally go and explain. Like dyeing on immaculate cloth, First with words of generosity, etc., Making the mind arise with joy, Afterwards, you teach the Dharma. In order to save beings tormented by afflictions, From the depths of unbearable samsara, There is no method or behavior, That you have not bestowed. Limitless forms of body attire, And with each language, For the different thoughts of those to be tamed, You act accordingly. All of these are pure, Not

Opposition and worthy of offerings, majesty and gods and humans, are all medicine-giving and reverence. Most of what is said and done is not well taken up with stones, but truthfully spoken, these two are different in you. With only pure self-nature, you have made the field of glory for beings. Such a field as this does not exist in the three realms. In the beginningless and terrifying existence, those who have declined alone from before, for the sake of benefiting all sentient beings, you are so diligent. The twelfth chapter, Praise of the Wise, is complete. The Thirteenth, Praise of Being Debt-Free Homage! It is not thought that there is an accomplishment by which one can repay your kindness. Whichever beings have passed away, they have not repaid it either. Those who abide in your Dharma, compared to doing only for their own benefit, what repayment is there for the hardships they endure for that? You are the kindler who sees into the minds of sleeping beings, a good friend with mindfulness for those who have become heedless. You have taught the destruction of afflictions, revealed the deceptions of the demons, spoken of the unpleasant nature of samsara, and also shown the direction of fearlessness. With the intention of benefiting and with compassion, whatever you should do for sentient beings, what else is there that you have not done? If these Dharmas could be transferred, you would not hesitate to rely on Devadatta to give them to all beings. Therefore, to instruct beings, you, the protector of beings, have clearly stated here that there is no mutual agent. Out of love for the worlds, you have long taught the sacred Dharma on earth, and have also created many noble disciples who can benefit the three worlds. Clearly, you have subdued the assemblies of those to be tamed, even up to the beautiful ones, so what debt to sentient beings remains for you now? In this way, with the vajra samadhi, having burned your body like sesame seeds, in the end, you did not abandon the extremely difficult asceticism. To make the world believe that the form body and these Dharmas were done only for the benefit of others, you showed nirvana. Therefore, the Dharmakaya is complete, the son.

Having entrusted to the supreme, Having shattered the physical body like sesame seeds, You have completely passed into nirvana. Ema, the state of abiding, Ema, the manner of abiding, Ema, the qualities, Ema, the body. In the Dharma of the Buddhas, There is nothing that is not greatly wondrous. Benefiting and pleasing to behold, Whose body, speech, and activity are pacified, Even towards you, Those who harbor great hatred, Behold their unbearable ignorance. The ocean of merit, a treasure of jewels, The source of qualities, a collection of Dharma, Whatever sentient beings revere you, To them also, may there be excellent prostrations. Although your qualities, O Protector, are unsurpassed, My attachment is even greater, Therefore, so that fear may arise, My heart is being torn apart. Your own nature, Is immeasurable and inconceivable, And the number of things not taught is also nonexistent, You yourself know the number. Although the water of the great ocean cannot be exhausted, It greatly pacifies the suffering of beings, Although even a fraction of your qualities is not proclaimed, My heart is exceedingly delighted. By the fruit of this virtuous action, Born from the pride I have in my faith in the Sage (Shakyamuni Buddha), May the minds of beings, Disturbed by the whirlwind of evil thoughts, be calmed and abide peacefully. The praise without debt, this is the thirteenth chapter. The One Hundred and Fifty Praises, composed by the great scholar Brahmin Asvaghosa, is complete. Translated, revised, and finalized by the Indian Abbot Śrī Śraddhākaravarma and the translator Shakya Lodrö. The Praise Called One Hundred and Fifty, by Brahmin Asvaghosa.
