If one thinks of death, who would not fear samsara, which is like a burning sword? This is the twelfth chapter, called "Praise that Generates Weariness of Samsara" from the Praise of the Blessed One Buddha, which is worthy of praise. The Praise of the Blessed One Buddha, which is worthy of praise, composed by the teacher Mati Citra, is complete. The Indian Abbot Sarvajñadeva and the translator Bande Palwatsek Rakshita translated, edited, and finalized it. Chapter Thirteen: Praise Through Similes Those with great fortune in composing poetry, through your power, my intellect, like a summer river, even the small will greatly increase. Having obtained this tongue, which is a rare human attainment, who would not benefit themselves by proclaiming the qualities of the protector? Your body adorned with marks and signs, beautiful like nectar for the eyes, is like the cloudless autumn sky adorned with a multitude of stars. The golden body of the Sage, covered with Dharma robes, is beautiful, like the peak of a golden mountain encircled by twilight clouds. Although you, protector, are not adorned with ornaments, the radiance of your face is full, like the full moon, cloudless and without blemish. Your lotus face and the lotus opened by the sun, if seen by a bee, would cause it to doubt and hesitate about the lotus. Your golden face, with its beautiful white teeth, is like the pure moonlight of autumn entering the midst of a golden mountain. Your right hand, worthy of offerings, adorned with the mark of the wheel, gives comfort with its hand to those who fear samsara. When you, Sage, walk, your two feet, like glorious lotuses, paint this earth, how beautiful with lotuses! Your gait is unparalleled, like a drunken elephant king, or like a newborn calf, or like the leader of a herd of cows, walking steadily. Your body is large with the accumulation of ethics, adorned with the tree of samadhi, pervaded by the river of wisdom, you are a wandering snow mountain. You are filled with the ocean of qualities, those whose bodies touch you.

You are the object of worship for gods and humans, You reside on the lotus seat. Your abode is the pure land of accomplishment, Seeing it, the mind becomes pure. Those wise ones who desire purity, Why would they go to a land of bad sounds? You are endowed with the six perfections, Therefore, you are truly beautiful. Like the full moon, Adorned by the Pleiades. For the beings to be tamed, like lotuses, You awaken them from their sleep, Like the rising sun, Causing the lotuses to bloom. For those seized by the poison of afflictions, You bestow the medicine of wisdom. Like protecting beings from the venomous bite, And removing the poison. With the forest fire of your wisdom, You burn the net of wrong views, Like a blazing forest fire, Burning the tender branches of trees. With the blazing nature of wisdom, Sage, you, like the sun, dry up the, Swamp of afflictions' nature, This is like the light of the sun. Your speech turns people's minds, Away from irrational actions. Like a great charioteer with a lasso, Preventing a straying cow. If relying on you alone, One can be liberated from the bonds of affliction, How much more so since you liberate others, Therefore, you are worthy of universal offerings. The rays of your speech, Satisfy those tormented by afflictions, Like the moonlight on a summer night. The beings to be tamed, with Dharma, Quench their thirst, beholding your face, Like a thirsty wild ass, Longing for summer rain clouds. The sound of your Dharma, Makes all those to be tamed rejoice, Like the sound of sweet music, Can make even running deer stop. Those who seek refuge, Do not go to you, the worthy refuge, But instead seek refuge in non-Buddhists, Helpless, they suffer for a long time. Even Indra with his thousand eyes, Cannot fully see that which, You see with your wisdom eye, And show to others as well. Those who boast of knowing scriptures, Many who speak in debate, Become humbled by your gaze, And scatter like bees. With just one word of yours, You defeat the opponent, Others remain silent, Like the cuckoo in winter.

Like this! Your excellent student's tree, Has blossomed with exceedingly virtuous flowers, Like a spring tree adorned with flowers, It is beautiful! Sage, with your arrow of wisdom, You have pierced the target of knowable things, In the city of joy, the archer king, Has never pierced it before. Those arrogant ones who boast of being wise, Because they do not know your path of liberation, They wander in the temple of existence, Like a blind crowd wandering in an empty wilderness. Worldly people doubt whether karmic results exist or not, But this body of yours has become a witness to virtuous deeds. Qualities like the ocean, your qualities, I cannot fully comprehend, Just as a bird cannot fathom the end of the blue lapis lazuli sky.
