Like the god who controls magical power, there is no difference. Day and night, six times a day, a rain of fragrant flowers falls, and the fallen old petals are exceptionally superior. The wind, fumigated with incense, touches and brings forth exceptional bliss. Even without the sun and moon, without day and night, there is no darkness, etc. At all times, all kinds of exceptional divine offerings rain down and are manifestly offered. All those born there will certainly become truly perfect. There are three reasons why the praises of this pure land are spoken by countless Buddhas in the ten directions: Hearing the name of Amitabha (Sanskrit: Amitābha, meaning 'Infinite Light'), one gains irreversible faith. Remembering him, accumulating merit, and making aspirations to be reborn there leads to rebirth in Sukhavati (the Pure Land of Bliss), and so on. Therefore, countless Buddhas in the ten directions speak of the name and praises of Amitabha. There are seven reasons why countless Bodhisattvas from the ten directions gather in that field: Countless Bodhisattvas from the ten directions make offerings with their hands, circumambulate, praise, and accomplish the supreme field. Amitabha shows the exceptional transformations of his blessings. Those Bodhisattvas, with even greater faith, praise and proclaim joy. He shows the auspicious omens of Amitabha's good prophecies. Avalokiteśvara (Sanskrit: Avalokiteśvara) asks about the meaning of this, along with the necessity. Amitayus (Sanskrit: Amitāyus, meaning 'Infinite Life') prophesies in response. Shakyamuni (Sanskrit: Śākyamuni) summarizes these as essential instructions. At that time, there are two ways in which the fields bless each other to appear: At that time, from this field, one can see those residing in Sukhavati. In Sukhavati, the arrangement of this field also appears. There are two teachings on striving for the means to be born in such an exceptional place: Generally, it shows the exceptional qualities of residing in Sukhavati. It explains the different results of aspirations with and without doubt. There are four points to this: Aspirations without doubt have many benefits. Aspirations with doubt have many faults. Therefore, it is advised to accomplish aspirations that abandon doubt. Countless Bodhisattvas from the ten directions will be born in that field. To show the great and exceptional benefits of these, there are three points: Showing the great benefits of the Buddha and this Dharma. Therefore, one should uphold and respectfully practice this Dharma. For such a purpose, one should repeatedly take on great difficulties. The first point has two parts: Amitabha --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It explains the immense benefits of hearing the name of Amitabha Buddha (sangs rgyas 'od dpag med, Buddha of Immeasurable Light), and the immense benefits of having faith in that Buddha and the Dharma. The condensed meaning of Amitabha Buddha's aspirations and the splendor of the Pure Land, etc., is complete. Now, we will also discuss how to dispel wrong views and doubts. Some virtuous spiritual friends believe: 'Ordinary beings cannot be born in Sukhavati (bde ba can, the Land of Bliss), so those who are currently ordinary beings cannot be born there no matter how hard they try.' This view becomes a source of wrong views and doubts, thus harming sentient beings. This contradicts the eighteenth vow among the forty-nine vows of the Bhikshu Dharmakara (dge slong chos kyi 'byung gnas, Monk Dharmakara) Bodhisattva, which clearly elucidates this point. How to dispel this wrong view? When beings die, if they see Amitabha Buddha and his retinue appearing before them, and they feel joy and faith, then they can be born in Sukhavati. Shakyamuni Buddha (sangs rgyas shAkya thub pa, Buddha Shakyamuni) also taught the same doctrine, because in the intermediate state of dying, beings can be transformed into noble ones. In the Avatamsaka Sutra (sangs rgyas phal po che'i mdo, Flower Ornament Sutra), it says: 'When I am about to die, all obscurations will be removed, and having seen the manifest Amitabha, I will be born in the Land of Bliss.' Etc., the meanings of these sutras are consistent. Others say: 'In the commentary on the Dharani of Two Verses, written by Acharya Mdzé Bkod (slob dpon mdzes bkod, Acharya Beautiful Array), and in the commentary and explanation of the Ornament of the Sutras, it is said that aspiring to be born in Sukhavati is only an example referring to other times.' Therefore, even if one practices as taught in this sutra, one will not be born in that Pure Land in the next life. This statement becomes a cause for abandoning the Dharma and a source of doubt, thus harming sentient beings. This can be dispelled by the Bhikshu's nineteenth vow. How to dispel it? This sutra also says that merely making aspirations is not enough; one needs to stay far away from the karma of the five heinous crimes and abandoning the Dharma, and one needs to have at least ten transformations of generating Bodhicitta (sems bskyed, mind of enlightenment). Therefore, it is said that merely making aspirations is not enough to achieve it. The example referring to other times is also referring to merely making aspirations. Therefore, there is no contradiction between this sutra and that sutra; their views are consistent. Furthermore, have all forty-nine vows of that Bhikshu been fulfilled or not? If they have been fulfilled, then the eighteenth vow says, 'If sentient beings hear my name, generate faith and joy, and single-mindedly remember the Buddha, if they are not born there, may I not attain Buddhahood.' Since the vow has already been made, why can't they be born there? If they say it has not been fulfilled, then the remaining vows cannot be trusted either. Therefore, these statements are unreasonable. In short, one should believe in all the teachings of the Buddhas, and one should practice as the Buddhas have said. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
