A Concise Explanation of the Teacher, the Petitioner, and the Root and Abridged Tantras. A Concise Explanation of the Teacher, the Petitioner, and the Root and Abridged Tantras. Now, here, the relationship between the teacher and the petitioner will also be discussed. If so, then words that have not been heard in the explanations of the tantras, both earlier and later, will arise. In this Vajrayana, isn't the great Yaksha lord residing in Rodan, the great Bodhisattva Mahasattva Vajrapani, the one who petitions the Tathagata and accurately compiles it? How did King Suchandra, the lord of Kalapa city in Shambhala, born from the womb of the sun goddess Vijaya, become the petitioner? Since it is neither heard nor prophesied in some other tantras, is the relationship between the teacher and the petitioner contradictory? Therefore, it should be stated that in this mantra vehicle, it is not correct for some to say that one born from the womb will not become a petitioner of the Tathagata. Because the Bhagavan is also born from the womb. In this mantra vehicle, if one born from the womb does not become a petitioner and compiler of the Tathagata, then Shakyamuni, the all-knowing one, born from the womb of Queen Maya, the consort of King Suddhodana of the Shakya clan, would not become a teacher, because he was born from the womb. Some also say that he first subdued the Maras and generated Bodhicitta, and then became the all-knowing Dharma teacher. After Nirvana, there is no entering into the womb, which contradicts the previous statement, because what is not established itself cannot be the cause of establishing others. Here, if there is no Buddha in the first place, then none among gods, humans, or asuras will subdue the Maras. Nor will they first attain complete enlightenment, because all obscurations have been eliminated. Nor will it be done simultaneously, because when there is a Mara, it is not the Buddha, because the mind is with obscurations.

Therefore. When it is the Buddha himself, there is no demon at that time, because he is free from mental obscurations. What else is there besides that? Due to karma, other than the Buddha Bhagavan, others born from a woman's womb do not possess the thirty-two major marks of a great being, the eighty minor marks, the thirty-two fully coiled urṇa hairs, and the six superknowledges. Therefore, what is called a demon is the defilement of the habitual tendencies of the minds of sentient beings in samsara. What is called the Buddha himself is the mind that is free from the habitual tendencies of samsara. Thus, as the Bhagavan said in the Prajñāpāramitā: "That mind which exists is not a mind," because it is naturally luminous and free from the habitual tendencies of samsara. Therefore, a demon is a mind with defilements, while the Buddha himself is a mind without defilements. Here, the Buddha subduing demons externally is like a dream, it is the manifestation of sentient beings' own minds. The true meaning of the Tathāgatagarbha will be explained in detail in the fifth chapter. Here, the entry of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas into samsara for the benefit of sentient beings is not something that samsaric beings can speak of. When the Lord of the World, I, entered hell for the sake of sentient beings, the messengers of Yama and the kings of Yama praised me, saying: "He who is liberated from the bonds of existence, yet holds onto existence for the sake of sentient beings, he shows the meaning of emptiness, and does not abandon the fruits of karma in due time. The defilements of his mind are burned by the fire of correct knowledge, and he is constantly moistened by true compassion. His actions are immeasurable, and we bow down to that Buddha who delights in the benefit of sentient beings." Therefore, with the essence of benefiting sentient beings, the entry of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas into the womb or their going to hell is not something that ordinary people can discriminate. Even one Bodhisattva who has accomplished the ten perfections, obtained the mastery of the ten bhumis, and acquired the ten powers, can manifest countless emanations in the three thousand great thousand world systems.
