In Tibetan: The Great Vehicle Sutra entitled 'The Dharani Called the Jewel Box, the Secret Relic, the Heart Essence of the Empowerment of All the Noble Tathagatas'. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard. At one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in the immaculate pleasure garden in the land of Magadha, by a pool of seven precious jewels, surrounded and preceded by a great assembly of Bodhisattvas, a great assembly of Hearers, and many hundreds of thousands of gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, humans, and non-humans, as well as many hundreds of thousands of local people. Then, in that assembly, there was a great Brahmin like a great sala tree, who was learned, intelligent, clear, kind-hearted, pleasing to see, and who fully upheld the path of the ten virtuous actions, named Immaculate Good Appearance. He was one who single-mindedly had faith in the Three Jewels, respectfully prostrated, possessed virtuous thoughts, carefully examined, diligently worked for the benefit of all sentient beings and virtuous deeds, was of great wealth, had vast enjoyment, was rich, had many possessions, and was complete with resources. Then, the great Brahmin Immaculate Good Appearance went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, circumambulated the Blessed One seven times, and offered flowers and incense to the Blessed One. He also offered silk garments worth a million, and a pearl necklace worth a million to the Blessed One. Then, he bowed his head to the two feet of the Blessed One, and sitting before the Blessed One, he spoke thus to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, please, together with your retinue of disciples, come to my humble abode to accept my offering."

Then, the great Brahmin Immaculate Good Eye, knowing from the presence of the Blessed One that not speaking was permission, quickly returned to his own home. That night, he prepared food, utensils, and many delicacies of a hundred flavors, and with great arrangements decorated the auspicious palace, as well as various great palaces, carrying flowers and incense, with many attendants, playing cymbals and drums, he went to where the Blessed One was, and upon arriving, requested the Blessed One that the time had come. Then, the great Brahmin Immaculate Good Eye said these words to the Blessed One: Blessed One, now is the time to pass away. Blessed One, if the time for passing away has come, please grant me permission. Then, the Blessed One sighed, looked at his attendants, and said: All assembled attendants, today you must all do a great deed, come here. Then, the Blessed One arose from his seat. As soon as the Blessed One arose from his seat, various different rays of light emanated from the Blessed One's body. That light illuminated all the Buddha lands in the ten directions, and also correctly reminded all the Tathagatas, and upon seeing it, they knew that he was about to pass away. Then, the great Brahmin Immaculate Good Eye made offerings and great reverence, and greatly beautified the place where the Blessed One passed away. Many attendants, as well as gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, Indra, Brahma, world protectors, Mahesvara, the son of Anaranya, and the four great kings also beautified the place of passing away. Then, not too far from the Blessed One, in the middle of the road, there was a place called the Delightful Grove. In that grove, there was an old stupa.

There was a place, dilapidated and full of thorns, overgrown with grass, trees, and rubble, like a pile of garbage. Then, the Blessed One went there, and that old stupa, like a pile of garbage, also blazed from all directions, emitting radiant light of various colors. From that pile of garbage and rubble, a sound of "Good!" arose. Tathagata Shakyamuni, good, good! Today is an auspicious sign. Great Brahmin, when the Tathagata was invited, you are also good. Today you will accomplish great deeds. Then, the Blessed One Tathagata prostrated to that old stupa, like a pile of garbage, with five limbs, circumambulated it three times, and then took off his robe from his own body and offered it to that old stupa, like a pile of garbage. The Blessed One shed copious tears and wept. Then, the Blessed One showed a smile. When he showed the smile, he saw all the Tathagatas of the ten directions as if they were sitting in the palm of his hand. All the Tathagatas were also sitting with their eyes full of tears. All those Tathagatas also emitted light and entered that old, huge stupa pile. Then, the many assembled retinues were greatly astonished and disheartened. Then, the chief of the Yaksha host, Vajrapani, his body trembling, his heart pounding, the vajra making a whooshing sound, hurriedly went to where the Blessed One was, went to the feet of the Blessed One, bowed with his head, and said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, what is the great omen of your weeping? Blessed One, what is the omen of you showing eyes full of tears? Blessed One, why do you allow this question to be raised in this assembly? Then, the Blessed One said to the chief of the Yaksha host, the great Vajrapani: Vajrapani, this accumulation of relics is the Tathagata stupa, it is all the Tathagatas, as numerous as sesame seeds.
