The Sutra Requested by the Noble Brave One The Sutra Requested by the Noble Brave One In Sanskrit: Arya Subahu Pariprccha Nama Tantra. In Tibetan: The Sutra Requested by the Noble Brave One. Homage to the All-Knowing One! The master of yakshas, the radiance of a thousand suns. With compassionate single-mindedness, abiding here. The Brave One respectfully prostrates as is proper. I request the accomplishment of all gatherings of vidyas and secret mantras. I, for the people on earth, through recitation, Fasting, and true unbearable vows, Even with diligence, have not seen accomplishment. Father, why is asceticism without meaning? Lord, whose splendor is like the sun and fire, You are the best of those who destroy sins and purify. If you would kindly explain with truthful words, Why do mantras not yield fruit? The superior, intermediate, and inferior ones, Even when practiced, the secret mantras do not grant fruit. If approaching yields no slight accomplishment, Why is practice only affliction? Whatever is the wisdom of the Victorious Ones, which is peace, He previously said to heal these with it. For whom mantras and vidyas have no accomplishment, How will they heal them? Out of compassion, for the sake of benefiting beings, The various secret mantras that you have spoken, Why is it that those recitations, fire offerings, ascetic practices, and Approaching, etc., do not accomplish? Is it that the ritual is deficient, or is there no power? Is it the nature of the times, or is it obscured by sins? Has the secret mantra been altered, or is it due to confusion? The Bhagavan has spoken all without exception. Having truly heard the words of the son, After contemplating for a moment, opening his long eyes, With his hand raising the vajra, scattering sparks of fire, The Vajra Holder spoke these words: Emaho! Shining like the light of the moon, You who ask out of compassion for the benefit of sentient beings, With this utterly stainless mind, Among the sons of the Sugatas, you have become a paramita. A Bodhisattva is not attached to himself, Nor is he crushed by his own sufferings, but Suffers for the sufferings of others, And rejoices in their happiness. Son, with such a good nature, Why do you ask for the benefit of sentient beings?
