If one recites the root mantra once, all wishes will be fulfilled, and all sufferings will be liberated. Whether it is a son or daughter of good family, if they have committed various evil deeds such as the ten non-virtuous actions and the five inexpiable sins, to the extent that all the land of Jambudvipa is ground into fine dust, and each particle of dust experiences one kalpa, then that person, due to committing various evil deeds, will fall into the hells and suffer for as many kalpas as there are dust particles, with no time for liberation. However, if these sons or daughters of good family, in front of an image containing relics, on the fifteenth day of the white moon, offer one umbrella and food, make a mudra, and recite the knowledge mantra a complete one thousand and eight times, then all the sufferings mentioned above will be purified. If they are not purified, such a thing is impossible. Furthermore, this is the mudra by which the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, the Lord of Great Compassion, who possesses a thousand eyes, obtains mastery over the feet of miraculous power: Stand up straight, and first press the toe of the left foot with the left hand, as if holding a fist. After that, press the wrist of the left hand with the right hand. Recite the Great Body Mantra seven times, even if you wish to go hundreds of thousands of yojanas, it will not be difficult. When reciting the mantra, do not make a sound. Furthermore, this is the mudra by which the Bodhisattva who possesses a thousand eyes obtains mastery over miraculous power: First, touch the nail of the little finger with the thumb of the left hand. After that, do the same with the right hand, and then raise the other three fingers separately. Join the joints of the wrists and place them on the crown of the head.
