The Ritual of the Incense Mandala The Ritual of the Incense Mandala Next, I will explain the ritual of sequentially dividing the incense. For all mantra holders, this is exceedingly wonderful. It is for the purpose of offering to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, as well as for accomplishing the summoning of all three realms of existence, inviting all deities, intimidating Indra, Brahma, Vishnu, and the Great Ishvara, and causing all fierce yakshas, rakshasas, flesh-eaters, and evil spirits to flee from the scent of the incense, without any doubt. Whether it be obstacles, false guidance, hatred, or even demons, they will be utterly destroyed by the scent of the incense, causing their limbs to be scattered. Whether it be one's own army, the enemy's army, intense strife, retaliation, the enemy themselves, hateful people, the place of battle, disputes, competition, or war itself, all will undoubtedly be completely pacified by the scent of the incense. If a man, woman, boy, girl, śrāmaṇera, brahmin, as well as a layperson, laywoman, bhikṣu, bhikṣuṇī, king, minor king, as well as the queen and the retinue of consorts, having bathed well and put on clean clothes, are fumigated with this incense, then whoever smells the scent of the incense, merely by their body coming into contact with the scent, will be liberated from all sins. They will attain the nature of complete purification of all obscurations, without any doubt. The sins of the five heinous crimes will also be immediately and completely purified. Merely this incense fills the trichiliocosm with its scent, filling it from the abode of the Thirty-three (त्रयस्त्रिंश, trayastriṃśa) gods up to the realm of Brahma (ब्रह्म, brahma). With great power and force, it shakes and moves all the abodes of the gods. It agitates the nāgas in the streams and causes all mountains other than Mount Meru to tremble.
