The wise Buddha, perfect in the world, Who first spoke the mantras, In the Jambudvipa, I pay homage to the glory of the Buddha. Those Buddhas who have come, passed, and have not yet come, I bow down to all of them. I take refuge in all of them. The one who turns the unsurpassed wheel, I pay homage to the one who makes the lamp. The king of Dharma, the maker of light, I pay homage to the one who subdues all. The all-knowing, the famous one, I pay homage to the one above the lotus. The one with eyes, the protector, I pay homage to the one who has gone to the scattered. The unsurpassed leader, I pay homage to the one above fame. The one who makes light like the sun and moon, I pay homage to the one who makes happiness. The one who shows the mirror of Dharma, I also pay homage to the one who sees the meaning. The fearless one of disciplined morality, I pay homage to the one called Victorious. Endowed with thirty-two excellent marks, I also pay homage to the king of stars. The perfect Buddha, the glorious one, I pay homage to the one who sees all. The radiant, glorious one, I pay homage to the one with the crown. The well-offered, the famous one, I pay homage to the one who protects all. The one who completely destroys the armies of Mara, I pay homage to the one who dispels false beliefs. The Brahmin, the glorious one, I pay homage to that golden sage. Loving kindness to all sentient beings, I pay homage to the light protector. Shakya Lion, the maker of light, I pay homage to the golden one. Without miserliness, compassionate, I also pay homage to Maitreya. I also pay homage to all the Buddhas, I take refuge in them. Whoever teaches the Dharma, I pay homage to all the Buddhas. To whom the Buddhas pay homage, I pay homage to the Dharma. Offering to whom is of great meaning, I also pay homage to the Sangha. The foremost of the Shravakas in wisdom, I pay homage to Shariputra. The foremost of those with miraculous powers, I pay homage to Maudgalyayana. Fearless in the words of Dharma, I pay homage to Katyayana. The foremost of the Shravakas in training, I also pay homage to Light Protector. The master of salvation, I pay homage to Kaundinya.

Homage! To the one who has heard much and holds the knowledge mantras, I pay homage to Ananda! Protecting the evil body and the land, the inauspicious eye and the noble-born, to the great kings of the four directions, I pay homage! To the chief of the yaksha hosts, the twenty-eight, I pay homage! To parents, preceptors, teachers, and the gods, I pay homage! Having paid homage to them, may this knowledge mantra be accomplished! For whose sake this is done, may that purpose be accomplished for me! Non-humans who harbor hatred and cause harm, quickly depart! Those who wish to harm and seek opportunity, please listen to the teachings of the Teacher! Any non-humans who are loving and wish to benefit, all gather and harmonize, the words of the protectors of the world, those whom the Teacher rejoices in, please listen to me with joyful hearts! This great Cool Grove Sutra is the great protection of the four great kings, encompassing the fourfold assembly. Yakshas, rakshasas, gandharvas, nagas, garudas, guhyapatis, bhutas, kumbhandas, pretas, vetalas, flesh-eaters, asuras, wind gods, desiccators, causes of harm, madmen, human and non-human, those who go upwards, wanderers, desirers, evil-doers, those who steal splendor, those who cause forgetfulness, severe epidemics, one-day epidemics, two-day epidemics, three-day epidemics, four-day epidemics, humans and non-humans, those who harbor hatred, those who seek opportunity, those who do not wish to benefit, those who cause harm, those who do not rejoice in the teachings of the Blessed One, those who wish to harm, those who do not wish to benefit, those who do not wish happiness, those who are accomplished, those who do not wish happiness, and to the fourfold assembly, those who do not rejoice, those who wish to harm, those who do not wish to benefit, those who do not wish happiness, those who are accomplished, those who do not wish happiness, and those who do not rejoice in the name of so-and-so, those who wish to harm, those who do not wish to benefit, those who do not wish happiness, those who are accomplished, those who do not wish happiness, all those who, having heard this great Cool Grove Sutra, depart!
