Having a certain way of behaving. Day and night, one should delight in the Dharma and desire the Dharma. Shariputra, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva possesses these four qualities, they will obtain this dharani. Then, the Bhagavan spoke these verses at that time: "Evil and the realm of demons, abandon the defilement of desire. These are the causes of sentient beings' hell, and also the causes of evil destinies. For the sake of knowledge, gain, and fame, do not be jealous of others. If you look at sentient beings with joyful eyes, you will become powerful and your appearance will become beautiful. Some sentient beings will argue with each other, that is because they are completely attached to its root. Therefore, you should abandon attachment to anything. If you abandon attachment, you will obtain the dharani. If you want Bodhi, do not think about other things, day and night you should seek the Dharma. If you rely on these Dharma words, then the dharani will manifest. Shariputra, furthermore, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva possesses four qualities, they will also obtain this dharani. What are the four? They are: dwelling in solitary and secluded places, generating the power of patience for the profound Dharma, not being particularly attached to gain, respect, and verses, not looking at all ugly things, and even completely abandoning body and life. Shariputra, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva possesses these four qualities, they will obtain this dharani. Then, the Bhagavan spoke these verses at that time: Dwell in the solitary place praised by the Buddhas, dwelling there you will not despise others. Having generated the desire for profound patience, you should remain vigilant as if your head is burning with flames. Do not dwell in knowledge, gain, and acquisition that have become the basis of pretense. Be content with meager things like a bird, and have the fruit of becoming human. Alas! The Buddha's teachings have been well obtained, and also abandon the root of many sufferings - the household. With body, speech, and mind completely pure, respect the Buddha and the Dharma. Desiring gain is not mindfulness, nor is it wisdom, nor is it faith and discipline, nor is it the mind of Dharma. That is far from Bodhi."

like the sky and the earth. Therefore, one should completely abandon gains and offerings. Shariputra, furthermore, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva possesses four qualities, they will attain this dharani. What are the four? They are as follows: One should comprehend the meaning of the eight syllables. What are those eight? They are as follows: The meaning of "pa" is, in terms of ultimate truth, to comprehend that all dharmas are without self. The meaning of "la" is auspicious marks and characteristics, and the absence of auspicious marks and characteristics, referring to the Dharmakaya of the Tathagata. The meaning of "va" is to comprehend that the dharmas of children and the dharmas of the wise are non-dual as they are. The meaning of "ja" is to comprehend birth, aging, and death, and the non-arising and non-cessation of sentient beings without birth, aging, and death. The meaning of "ka" is to comprehend the ripening of karma and the absence of the ripening of karma. The meaning of "dha" is to comprehend the aspects of dharani-dharma, namely emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, and the realm of dharma. The meaning of "sha" is to comprehend shamatha and vipashyana, and the absence of shamatha and vipashyana, referring to the suchness of all dharmas. The meaning of "ksha" is to comprehend that all dharmas are momentary, and from the beginning are peaceful, therefore inexhaustible, fearless, without movement, and that all dharmas enter into nirvana. Thus, comprehending the meaning of these eight syllables is the first comprehension. Writing this dharani-dharma category well and holding it is the second comprehension. Constantly reciting and remembering this dharani-dharma category every half month (the white and black halves of the month), and striving for this, is the third comprehension. The Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, with diligence towards this dharani-dharma category, strives to make all sentient beings truly rejoice, to lead them to truly uphold it, and to induce them to truly praise it, this is the fourth comprehension. Shariputra, Bodhi
