The Sutra of the Four Goddesses' Inquiry The Sutra of the Four Goddesses' Inquiry In Sanskrit: Caturdevīparipṛcchā. In Tibetan: The Sutra of the Four Goddesses' Inquiry. Homage to glorious Vajrasattva! Abiding with the four goddesses, adorned with the form of the Buddha, in the great union of utmost joy, Vajrasattva dwells greatly, holding radiant light, in the source of the great secret Dharma, the Bodhicitta emanates, inquiring from the realm of Dharma. Having seen the object of inquiry, the goddess Beautiful Eyes inquired: I beseech the Bhagavan Vajrasattva, these words are a supplication: The various emanations of the Dharma realm, from where do they arise? How do they come into being initially? Likewise, how do they depart? That which is without limbs, how does it become endowed with limbs? How does the physical body transform? The eyes, ears, nose, and likewise the tongue, body, and mind, the objects of the senses and aggregates, and also entering into the realms, the afflictions, desires, and so forth, bound by ignorance, habits, and craving, how do the various forms of consciousness actually gather? The form meditated upon as devoid of objects, the characteristics of the objects of experience such as form, being without inherent nature and without focus, how does it have a focus? These are greatly wondrous, please, O deity, dispel my doubts. As soon as she had inquired thus, the Bhagavan Vajrasattva spoke: Listen, Beautiful Eyes, I shall explain the profound and inexhaustible wisdom. It is beyond examination and not knowable, likewise, it is difficult for examiners to know. It is the great secret of all Buddhas, the sphere of activity of space is space itself. Because it is obscured by the darkness of unknowing, the Shravakas do not know it. Those who know the sphere of activity and habits are emanations of Pratyekabuddhas, but even they do not know it. The ignorant places of individual birth, and the three times of past, future, and present, the births of animals and hungry ghosts arising from the habits of animals, even they do not know it, it is the great secret of the Buddhas' sphere of activity. The very essence of the heart, that which abides entirely within me, is the great secret of all Buddhas, O goddess!

To be explained. The Bodhicitta is clear light, Like the light of a moon crystal. That itself is the substance of the five wisdoms, Only the size of a mustard seed. The deity who dwells in the center of that, Is a form that is not clear but clear, The best of the extremely small of half a measure. The form of the bindu of the substance of mind, Always dwelling in the center of the heart, Possessing great light and blazing. Between as many as nine times, Abiding on the forehead down to the soles of the feet. Gathering only that bindu, Abiding completely in the center of the navel. It is only a fifth part, At the end of twelve, Marked by six parts. The vowel A (Tibetan: ང་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, literal meaning: A) is adorned with bindu, Having taken it out from the vajra, Placing the seed (Tibetan: ས་བོན, Devanagari: बीज, Romanized Sanskrit: bīja, literal meaning: seed) origin in the center, Causing the Dharmadhatu to melt. That is the gradual arising, For the nine doors it goes completely. Pervading and abiding in all who go, Unmoving and so on, and with moving. Brahma and other gods and non-gods, The basis is transformed from that. From what mainly arises, It is said to be earth and sky. As long as it dwells in the body, By that, actions and non-actions are done. Even thoughts of good and non-good, It is doing all that is to be done. Union is always said to be that, It is said to be offering and meditating. When the body of karma is destroyed, At that time, by its own power, It transforms into such a body, By which it pervades moving and unmoving. Like the equality of space, Know that it is abiding. The meaning of the words at the two ends of ten, By what is constantly meditated, By that, with the increase of accomplishments, The self becomes Vajradhara. Teeth and lips and palate and tongue, Where the throat is located, Wherever that is, that is the letters themselves. That is because of exhaustion and abiding. Without speech and doubtful, Completely abandoning sound and letters, The same inside and outside. Here, Bodhicitta is spoken of. The first chapter, the question of the goddess Chakshumati from the complete questioning by the four goddesses. Then the goddess Mamaki, Asked Vajradhara this: The order of Bodhicitta, Mouth, heart, navel, secret place, Showing the going and returning, Please, great Vajra, bestow your word. How many parts are asked? When the form of the place changes, How many colors are asked? Thus
