After that, they were made to generate the supreme Bodhicitta. At that time, the great king lit a thousand lamps on his body and offered them to the great Brahmin teacher, and the light illuminated the lands of the ten directions. From the light of that lamp, the sound of half a verse of Dharma also arose, causing all beings to generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. The light of that lamp also illuminated the heavenly palace of the thirty-three gods, and the light of the lamp overwhelmed all the light of the gods, and the thirty-three gods were all illuminated by the light of the lamp, and they thought to themselves: What is the cause, what is the reason, that such a light appears? Looking with the divine eye, they saw that in the world realm, the great Chakravartin king had generated a compassionate mind, and for the benefit of all beings, had lit a thousand lamps on his body and offered them to the great Brahmin teacher. The gods were filled with great joy and descended to the world realm, transforming into the bodies of ordinary people, and came to where the king was, and said to the great king: Great king, lighting a thousand lamps on your body, practicing what is extremely difficult to practice, what can be done by hearing half a verse? The king said: Son of good family, I do this in order to lead all sentient beings to generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Then, the transformed person transformed back into the body of Indra, and illuminated everything with the light of his body, and said to the great king: Great king, by making such an offering, do you desire to be the king of the gods? Do you desire to be the king of demons? Do you desire to be the king of Brahma? The Chakravartin king said to Indra: Lord of the gods, I do not desire any of the enjoyments of gods and humans, but I desire unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, in order to place all individual ordinary beings in a state of happiness, to liberate those who are not liberated, to bring to the other shore those who have not reached the other shore, and to enable those who have not attained enlightenment to attain enlightenment.

Agreed. Indra said: Great King, you are truly foolish. Supreme perfect enlightenment is attained by practicing extremely difficult practices for a long time, why would you attain supreme enlightenment? The king said to Indra: Even if a burning iron wheel constantly spins on the top of my head, I will not turn back from supreme enlightenment because of that much suffering. Indra said: Who would believe you saying such words? Then the Wheel-Turning King said to Indra: If I do not desire supreme perfect enlightenment, but deceive you, the lord of the gods, may these wounds on my body never heal. If that is not the case, then let the blood turn into milk, and let the wounds also heal. As soon as he vowed, the wounds healed. Indra, the lord of the gods, praised the king, saying: King, you are very good, very good. Great King, you truly possess great compassion, this is the practice of great compassion. By practicing such difficult practices, you will soon attain supreme perfect enlightenment. When you attain supreme enlightenment, please first do benefit for me. Having said that, Indra, the lord of the gods, illuminated the king's entire body with the light of his body, and together with hundreds of thousands of divine retinues, generated the mind of supreme perfect enlightenment. The five hundred princes, seeing that the wounds on their father's body had healed and returned to their original state, were overjoyed, bowed to the king's feet with their heads, and then sat to one side, joining their palms respectfully and saying in unison: Such an act is truly amazing, Father King, you truly have great compassion for all beings. The king said: Children, if you truly serve me, then all of you generate the mind of supreme perfect enlightenment. After the king's admonition, the princes all generated the mind of perfect enlightenment.

It became so. Similarly, twenty thousand consorts and countless palace maids also generated the mind of enlightenment. At that time, seventeen times as many beings as the sands of the Ganges River, residing within that retinue, generated the mind of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Gods, Nagas, Yakshas, Gandharvas, Asuras, Garudas, Kinnaras, Mahoragas, humans and non-humans, and so on, countless beings, having seen and heard of such a thing, all generated the mind of enlightenment, rejoiced greatly, and returned. From the Sutra of Great Skillful Means for Repaying the Kindness of the Buddha, called the Third Chapter, "The Chapter on Antidotes." Third, The Chapter on Antidotes.
