He said, "Great Brahmin, come here! Do not cause harm, cut off my head and take it!" Then King Moonlight himself fully generated the power and strength of his body, and with great compassion for that Brahmin, and with a loving heart that went and arose together, he cut off his head and gave it to the eyes of the fierce Brahmin. Having passed away, he greatly transcended the world of Brahma and was born among the excellent hosts of the gods of virtue. Monks, as soon as the head was completely given away, this three-thousandfold great thousandfold world trembled, greatly trembled, shook, greatly shook, swayed, greatly swayed. The gods who were visibly dwelling in the center of the sky also made the sound "Alala." The gods of the intermediate space also scattered celestial utpala flowers, lotuses, kumuda flowers, and pundarika flowers, as well as agarwood powder, tagara powder, sandalwood powder, and the flowers of the gods, mandara flowers and great mandara flowers, and also rained down showers of clothing. The sounds of the gods' musical instruments were also truly played. Then, the fierce Brahmin, carrying the head, came out of the garden of jewels and precious essence, and hundreds of thousands of beings made the sound, "Alas, the god has been killed, it is suffering!" There, some were rolling on the ground, some were stretching out their arms and wailing. The women were also weeping with their hair disheveled. Hundreds of thousands of beings also gathered there, dwelling together in that place, and having dwelt there, generated meditative states. Having passed away in that very place, they were born among the gods of virtue, equal in fortune to King Moonlight. Some practiced meditation and passed away in that very place, and were born among the gods of clear light. Others gathered together and burned the body of King Moonlight with wood for cremation, endowed with all kinds of fragrances. Those bones were also placed in golden vases, and a stupa of relics was excellently erected at the crossroads of the main road, and umbrellas, victory banners, and flags were erected, and offerings were made to King Moonlight with incense, garlands, fragrant powders, and musical instruments.

Some, with minds full of faith, and similarly cultivating concentration through sorrow, passed away due to that cultivation of concentration and were born in the world of Brahma. Some, not seeing King Moonbeam, were overwhelmed by grief and passed away, being born in the six desire realms. All those who passed away there were inclined towards higher realms and liberation. Monks, at that time, in that era, the royal palace of stone in the north should not be seen as something else; this very stone became the royal palace of stone at that time. Monks, what do you think? That one called King Moonbeam was me. At that time, I entered the conduct of a Bodhisattva and personally gave my head entirely to the eye of the cruel Brahmin in the garden of jewels and precious essence. Monks, what do you think? That one called the eye of the cruel Brahmin was Devadatta; at that time, he became the eye of the cruel Brahmin. Monks, what do you think? At that time, the chief ministers Great Moon and Earth Holder were these two monks, Shariputra and Maudgalyayana. These two, unable to bear my passing into nirvana and not seeing me die, passed away first. Now also, unable to bear my passing into nirvana and not seeing me pass into nirvana, they passed away first. The Blessed One spoke thus, and the monks rejoiced, praising the words of the Blessed One. The Jataka of King Moonbeam is complete. The Indian Abbot Dharmasribhadra and the revising translator, the monk Sherab Lekpa, translated and revised it. The monk Rinchen Zangpo corrected and finalized it. The Jataka of Moonbeam.
