Once, the Blessed One was dwelling in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Park, near Shravasti. At that time, there was a king named Prasenajit, and he had a minister named Deer. He was very wealthy and enjoyed great prosperity. He had seven sons. Six of the sons were married, but the youngest son was not yet married, so the father thought to himself: I am old and frail, I should seek an excellent woman for this unmarried son. At that time, the householder had a Brahmin friend, and he met with him and spoke. He said: My youngest son is still unmarried, and I do not know whom to ask for a bride. If you travel everywhere and see a woman who is beautiful, intelligent, and endowed with long life and power, you must seek one who is pleasing to my son. The Brahmin agreed, saying: I will do so. So he traveled everywhere in search. In a place called Shiritita, he saw five hundred girls together, picking beautiful flowers from the bushes, making garlands to offer to the Buddha. The Brahmin followed the girls and saw them crossing a small river. All the other girls took off their shoes, but one girl crossed the river without taking off her shoes. Then they went on and crossed a large river. The other girls took off their clothes and entered the water, but that girl crossed the river without taking off her clothes. Then they went into a grove, and the other girls climbed the trees and picked flowers, but that girl picked them from the ground, but the others found more.
