Upon hearing the sound, they immediately shut their mouths, and the flow of water ceased, causing the merchants to revive from death. The crocodile, due to starvation, died on the spot and was reborn as a worm in the city of Rajagriha. The crocodile's corpse was washed ashore, scorched by the sun, soaked by the rain, and the bones that remained after the flesh had decayed became this mountain. Endowed with wealth, you should understand it this way. At that time, at that moment, King Dharma-uttara was you. Due to the act of killing, you were born as a crocodile in the great ocean. Now that you have regained a human body, if you do not turn your back on samsara, immediately after death from here, you will go to the hells and it will be very difficult to be liberated. Bhikshu Sridatta saw his former body and heard this teaching, and became very afraid of samsara. He gradually developed faith in the Dharma that he diligently practiced, and remained in a state of one-pointed concentration. Having seen his former body, he understood the Dharma of impermanence, realized the need to turn his back on samsara, and exhausted all the taints of defilement, becoming an Arhat. Maudgalyayana was very pleased and said: "Son of Dharma, you have kept all things in mind. Before, you came here by my power, and now you will return by my power." Having said this, Maudgalyayana ascended into the sky, and Bhikshu Sridatta, like a disciple following his teacher, like a chick following its father bird, came to the garden of light. At that time, the young bhikshus, not knowing that he was an Arhat, did not show Sridatta even the slightest respect, just as before, and said nothing. The Blessed One, knowing that this had happened, in order to prevent the young bhikshus from despising him, and to proclaim the virtues of the elder bhikshu, in the midst of the assembly, the Blessed One commanded Bhikshu Sridatta to come forward and asked: "Have you gone to the seashore?" Sridatta replied: "I have gone to the seashore." The Blessed One asked: "What did you see on the seashore? Tell me." The bhikshu then explained in detail what he had seen.

Then, the Blessed One praised, saying, "Good, good! Auspicious Virtue, what you have seen is true. Now you have completely abandoned the suffering of samsara and attained the bliss of nirvana, becoming a place of offering for gods and humans in the world. Bhikshu, you have completed all your tasks." After saying this, those young bhikshus, upon hearing the Blessed One's words, felt great remorse and displeasure, saying, "Such a wise and knowledgeable noble one, yet we, lacking wisdom, have harmed and offended him. We will suffer the consequences of negative karma." After saying this, the young bhikshus went to where Bhikshu Auspicious Virtue was, prostrated with their five limbs touching the ground, and said, "Noble beings are born with compassion. Venerable one, you are also born with great compassion. For the sake of compassion towards us, we confess to you." That bhikshu also said, "I have no unpleasant thoughts towards your bodies, may you be purified." Afterwards, Bhikshu Auspicious Virtue, realizing that those young bhikshus were very remorseful and possessed a respectful mind, taught those bhikshus the Dharma. Having heard the Dharma that turns away from samsara, they diligently exerted themselves, exhausted all the defilements of affliction, and became Arhats. After that, the householder Auspicious Virtue also became very famous in Rajgir (located in present-day Bihar, India), and everyone found it very strange and astonishing, saying, "An old householder who knows nothing has renounced the world under the Buddha's teachings, become an Arhat, and can even teach such a sublime Dharma." At that time, most of the people living in Rajgir generated pure thoughts, some allowed their sons, daughters, male servants, and female servants to renounce the world, and some requested to renounce the world themselves. Everyone was very happy and rejoiced in approval. Therefore, the merits of renunciation are immeasurable.

Immeasurable. Countless. Like one with glory, having become ordained after reaching one hundred years of age. If one becomes endowed with such great qualities, what need is there to mention that a young person, having reached maturity, will find the supreme and sacred great fruit if they become ordained? Those who are diligent in the Dharma should be ordained. This is the fifteenth chapter, praising the virtues of ordination. Fifteenth Chapter: Praising the Virtues of Ordination.
